MLB National League West Betting Odds

The Los Angeles Dodgers have turned the NL West into their stomping grounds each of the last seven years, but haven’t seen their dominance over their rivals amount to much of anything during that stretch. Even after winning 100+ games in two of the last three regular seasons, the Commissioner’s Trophy still hasn’t found its way back to Tinseltown since 1988. Even so, linemakers at online sportsbooks still have Dave Roberts squad installed heavy -715 favorites to win the NL West for the eighth straight time as well as +325 odds on favorites to win the World Series ahead of the Yankees +363 and Astros +895. Owners of the highest win total odds in the game, it’s extremely tough to envision any of the big dogs challenging them for divisional bragging rights in the abbreviated 2020 baseball betting season.

NL West Betting Odds

Los Angeles Dodgers -715

San Diego Padres +750

Arizona Diamondbacks +900

Colorado Rockies +3000

San Francisco Giants +8000

Los Angeles Dodgers -715

Though the Dodgers went on to win a franchise-best 106 games a season ago, LA’s season still ended up getting cut short in the division round against the Washington Nationals due to the extra inning heroics of Howie Kendrick in the fifth and deciding game. Even so, the Dodgers were nothing but dominant over the course of the regular season in marching one of the league’s more potent offenses onto the field that was backed by arguably the best pitching staff the game had to offer. It’s likely only going to get better in 2020 as well with the addition of Mookie Betts atop the batting order, and the starting staff returning most of the integral parts from last season’s fantastic unit. Though the bullpen is a concern, LA is the owner of the best team in the National League by a country mile. If it doesn’t pan out early on, upper management can always look to the farm which rates out as one of the game’s best - It’s good to be Kings!

San Diego Padres +750

The ultimate goal in the first season of new manager Jayce Tingler’s reign is to produce a winning record in San Diego. The Padres last sat above the breakeven point in 2010 when it went 90-72 yet still missed out on going to the playoffs. Petco Park hasn’t seen postseason baseball since 2006, and it faces a steep uphill climb to end that 14-year drought as great a team the Dodgers look to have on paper. That said, the franchise is just oozing with young and veteran superstar talent that should have this team in the mix for years to come. But will it be in 2020? You can bet your bottom dollar Fernando Tatis Jr. and Manny Machado will do their damndest to make it a reality, but it’s likely the team is still a year or two away from becoming a major player in the NL West.

Arizona Diamondbacks +900

The D’backs exceeded expectations in a big way last season by winning 85 games to easily surpass its 77-game season win total odds. GM Mike Hazen has made some bold moves in the past like picking up Ketel Marte on waivers and allowing Paul Goldschmidt to get away from the desert right before his career took a turn for the worse. He didn’t sit on his hands this past offseason either by going out and trading for stud outfielder Starling Marte, signing Kole Calhoun and inking Madison Bumgarner to a 5-year $85M contract. Zona has a formidable starting staff comprised of the Mad Bum, Luke Weaver, Zac Gallen and Robbie Ray. The offense should rake. If the bullpen can find a way to hold its own, the Snakes will be right in the thick of what’s expected to be a competitive wild-card race.

Colorado Rockies +3000

Horrendous free agent signings have sunk what could’ve been a streak of dominance for a Rockies team that enters 2020 just a couple seasons removed from winning 91 and 87 regular season games. Last season spun out of control with the team ranking out amongst the league’s worst in most offensive and pitching categories. With next to nothing being done to rectify the situation this past offseason, it comes with little surprise to see linemakers expecting them to duke it out with the San Francisco Giants for last place in the division. It’s gotten so bad in Denver that Nolan Arenado wants absolutely nothing to do with being a member of the Colorado Rockies. Once he’s either traded or opts out after next season, this franchise must be torn down and started over from scratch.

San Francisco Giants +8000

Last year made it three straight losing seasons and counting for the once proud San Francisco Giants who’ve been left in the Dodgers’ wake since winning the World Series in 2010, 2012 and 2014. What’s left is a veteran-laden roster hampered by a payroll preventing the franchise from doing anything until those contracts are off the books. Pieces to the Giants celebrated past continue to leave town. The most recent was Madison Bumgarner who now pitches for the rival Diamondbacks. Still, the farm system is turning into one of the best in the game; Giants diehards got a glimpse at a future contributor last season when Mike Yastrzemski played to a 2.8 WAR as a 28-year old rookie. There’s plenty more where that came from, but it won’t make any sort of impact this season to better what’s likely to be at best a 4th place finish in the final standings.
