Mets at Angels Sunday Night Baseball Betting

The New York Mets hit the betting board as +600 underdogs to win the National League. Buck Showalter has proven that his presence has been enough to propel this underachieving squad into the penthouse suite of the NL through the first nine-plus weeks of the season. As it stands right now, the Mets are the toast of the league with a league-best 38-20 overall record that would allow it to secure home field advantage should the playoffs start right now. Pete Alonso and Co. has done nothing but fatten up bankrolls at online sportsbooks! The same can’t and won’t be said of the Los Angeles Angels who just recently fired Joe Maddon after dropping 12 straight games to precipitously fall out of the AL West race. The canning did nothing to change the team’s fortunes with the losing streak extending to 13 with interim manager Phil Nevin taking over the reins. The spotlight will fall directly on Noah Syndergaard for this one as he runs up against his former mates for the first time in his career. Call me crazy, but I don’t think he’ll be up for the challenge.

First pitch for the series finale between the New York Mets and Los Angeles Angels is scheduled for Sunday, June 12, 2022, at 7 p.m. ET from Angel Stadium. This week’s Sunday Night Baseball telecast will air live on ESPN. Bet on MLB odds and player props at BookMaker.eu every day of the season.

Odds Analysis

Everything about the Metropolitans is coming up roses right now. The team is one of the most balanced in the league with it ranked amongst the top-10 in most of the pertinent offensive and pitching stat categories both in the starting rotation and bullpen. It’s translated into New York ranking out as the absolute best bet in the game having banked nearly $1,150 for its supporters through 58 played games. While the franchise has notoriously made it a habit of going into a June Swoon after getting out to a hot start, that hasn’t been the case so far with it logging wins in four of its seven played games. On the complete other side of the spectrum is the Halos whose fall from grace now finds them tied with the Texas Rangers 9.5-games out in the AL West. It was only a few weeks ago that it was only a few games in back of the Houston Astros. It’s been quite the fall from grace; something needed to be done!

Probable Pitchers

David Peterson L: The south paw has been the beneficiary of outstanding run support with the Mets averaging 7.9 runs in his seven made starts. As such, the over has cashed in at a 5-1-1 clip with each of his last five surpassing the closing number. While the 2-0 record and 2.97 ERA looks fine, a peek under the hood paints a different picture than what MLB bettors have benefitted from by backing him. Though his hits per nine average checks in at 6.5, he’s walking 4.6 per nine innings which is the reason why his WHIP clocks in at 1.23. The Angels are above average in taking walks overall No. 13 and No. 6 against left-handers. On top of that, they average 4.8 runs per game against LHP. Hit the under of Peterson’s pitching outs prop if you can find it.

Noah Syndergaard R: I’m still trying to get over the peppering the New York Yankees administered upon “Thor” back on May 31 when he failed to get through three innings by giving up seven hits 1 HR and 5 ER in his second shortest stint of the season. He bounced back the following start by tossing six innings of 1 ER ball at the Boston Red Sox, but still ended up taking the loss. The righty has alternated excellent and nightmarish outings in his last four starts. If that trend holds true to form, he’s in line for a stinker in this one. That wouldn’t come as a surprise with New York punishing right-handed pitching to the tune of 5.3 runs per game and only striking out at a 21.6 percent clip No. 3. I wouldn’t balk at fading his likely 4.5 K prop.

Mets vs. Angels Prediction

So who’s ready for some fireworks to close out the week? I certainly am! The over is going to be a pretty big liability for those booking the bets with the Angels looking to make a statement in front of a nationally televised audience against arguably the story of the 2022 baseball betting season. David Peterson has been getting it done with smoke and mirrors. I fully expect Mike Trout and Co. to go off for a big tally. On the flipside, I’m not sold on Syndergaard shining against his former team either. Look for Francisco Lindor and his mates to also get theirs. As such, gimme the over for both the first five innings and the full game. Bring it all together by riding the over of both team totals. This pitching matchup is ripe to see some runs dent the scoreboard!
