Boston Red Sox at New York Yankees MLB Betting

A rough week lies ahead for the New York Yankees with four matchups set to go down against the Tampa Bay Rays before the hated rival Boston Red Sox make their first 2021 trek into Gotham. Not good when you take into account the embarrassing three game sweep Aaron Boone’s squad just suffered at the hands of the Detroit Tigers last weekend. Boston continues to play at a consistent enough of a pace to remain in the thick of the NL East pennant race sitting a lone game in back of the Rays for bragging rights. The same can’t be said of the supposed “Bronx Bombers” who’ve already shown a penchant for lying down in a number of series to this point of the season. Because of it, the Yanks entered the week 4.5-games back in the NL East race. Even so, New York has owned this rivalry coming out the victor at online sportsbooks in all but three of the last 20 overall confrontations. Eduardo Rodriguez will attempt to halt the BoSox’s losing ways when he runs up against the improving Jameson Taillon in the second game of this weekend set.

First pitch for the game between the Boston Red Sox and New York Yankees is scheduled for Saturday, June 5, 2021, at 7:15 p.m. ET from Yankee Stadium. The matchup will air live on FOX. Bet on MLB odds and player props at BookMaker.eu every day of the season.

Odds Analysis

Even though Tampa Bay +200 sits atop the division standings heading into the ninth week of the MLB betting season, it’s the Yankees +130 that are still the choice of linemakers to take home the division crown; Boston +350 clocks in a distant third followed by the Blue Jays +550 and Orioles 250-1. The Red Sox have been one of the more lucrative teams to back on the MLB odds through the first two months with the team compiling a 32-20 record that’s equated to just over $1K secured in betting profit. New York on the other hand continues to cost its backer’s cold hard cash -$493 regardless of the fact that it sits five-games over .500 entering the week. Boston has been tremendous on the road in posting a gaudy 16-7 record $957, while New York has cost MLB bettors $159 overall even though it sits four games over .500 as a host. The under is 4-3 the last seven times these rivals collided in the Bronx.

Probable Pitchers

Eduardo Rodriguez: E-Rod kicked off his 2021 campaign with quality efforts in half of his first four starts while only allowing 18 hits and 9 ER through 23 total innings. Since then however, it’s been a real struggle for the left-hander who enters this tilt having conceded at least 4 ER in four of his last five starts. Last time out, he was taken to task by the Atlanta Braves who touched him up for five hits 1 HR and 4 ER in his shortest outing of the season 4 IP. The lefty has experienced a bit of bad luck with his 5.06 ERA over 1.50 higher than his 3.51 FIP. That means positive regression could be in the cards moving forward, and it could occur against a Yankees offense that’s struggled against lefties in going 8-8 while averaging just 3.7 runs per game #24. Lifetime against New York, Rodriguez checks in 6-6 with a 3.87 ERA, 1.41 WHIP and .527 batting average against.

Jameson Taillon: It’s been a rough go of it for the right-hander ever since breaking into the Bigs back in 2016. From injuries to ineffectiveness, it’s been a long steep climb for the former Pittsburgh Pirate and current Yankee. That said, it looks like the youngster is rounding into form entering Monday afternoon’s start at home against Tampa Bay. The start prior, he held a powerful Chicago White Sox offense to just two hits and more importantly no earned runs through five innings. The effort marked the first time all year that he didn’t concede at least one run in a start. Management however looks to be treating him with kid gloves right now having limited him to 76 and 80 pitches in his last two starts. New York’s bullpen has been nothing short of a dumpster fire of late, so you might want to revisit this matchup on the live in-game betting odds should he get another early hook.

Red Sox vs. Yankees Prediction

Losers in five of its previous six games heading into the series opener against the Rays on Memorial Day, I’m simply not buying the Yankees as being the team to beat in the AL East. When the engine is humming and firing on all cylinders, New York is lethal with its ability to pepper all opposition with an unforgiving offense. That scenario has been few and far between through the first 50+ games. With that, I envision linemakers installing the Yankees inflated home chalk for this matchup which will have me siding with the disrespected Red Sox at an attractive price. I need to see more improvement from Taillon before I firmly buy-in to the switch being flipped. Boston has been a tremendous moneymaker on the road all season, so look for it to add to its already impressive record in hostile territory once the 27th out has been secured.
