2021 MLB All-Star Game Betting

Though the American League has come out the victor in each of the last seven Midsummer Classics, it’s the National League that rates out as the slight favorite at online sportsbooks to win this year’s installment of the All-Star Game. That comes off as a bit surprising to me knowing full well a number of excellent starting pitchers won’t be making an appearance in the game due to injury or having recently pitched. Pair that with a loaded AL roster, it looks to me like MLB bettors are getting an absolute bargain if backing the American League at such reduced odds. I think they should be heavier favorites. Hopefully the humidor remains off like it was for the Home Run Derby. Should that be the case, the over might just be a bargain as well regardless of the fact that the under has cashed in at an 11-2-1 clip over the last 14 matchups. Regardless, the location of the game and roster makeups for both sides should play to a competitive battle once again with each of the last four ASG’s being decided by two or less runs.

The 2021 All-Star Game between the American and National League is scheduled for Tuesday, July 13, 2021, at 7:30 p.m. ET from Coors Field. The matchup will air live on FOX. Bet on MLB odds and player props for the game at BookMaker.eu.

Odds Analysis

With the game now taking place in the thin air of the Mile High City, linemakers opened the total up in the double-digit range for the first time since 2008 when it was played at Yankee Stadium. That matchup went off the board at 10 yet still played to a comfortable under with the AL besting the NL 4-3. Coming in at 10.5, this year’s matchup boasts the highest All-Star Game total in recent memory. As for the side, the National League has bounced between -105 and -115 favorites to end its seven-year streak of futility against the American League. You have to go back to the 8-0 shutout in 2012 to find the last time the NL logged its last win over the AL in this exhibition.

Probable Pitchers

National League: Though Jacob deGrom, Brandon Woodruff, Kevin Gausman and Yu Darvish won’t be partaking in the festivities, the NL will still roll with a capable pitching staff mixed with some of the best starting and relief arms the league has to offer. The list includes Corbin Burnes, German Marquez, Trevor Rogers, Zack Wheeler, Craig Kimbrel, Mark Melancon, Josh Hader, Alex Reyes, Walker Buehler, Freddy Peralta, Max Scherzer and Taijuan Walker.

American League: All eyes will be on Shohei Ohtani with him becoming the first player ever voted into the All-Star Game both as a pitcher and designated hitter. He’ll likely get the starting nod and be followed by the likes of Gerrit Cole, Lance Lynn, Nathan Eovaldi, Kyle Gibson, Yusei Kikuchi, Carlos Rodon, Aroldis Chapman, Liam Hendriks, Matt Barnes, Gregory Soto and Chris Bassitt. The only AL pitcher voted in not playing in the game will be Ryan Pressly while on paternity leave.

All-Star Game Prediction

As tremendous a season Ohtani has had to this point, doesn’t it seem like this exhibition is tailor made for the Japanese import to steal the spotlight from everyone else on the field. His production both with his arm and stick has demanded it. There hasn’t been another pitcher/hitter in the history of the game that’s been as dominant since Babe Ruth! And no, I’m not talking about the candy bar! While he’ll only get a few innings under his belt in this one, I still like the makeup of the AL’s roster much better than that of the NL’s. Had more of the NL’s premiere arms been made available, I wouldn’t be as confident. Regardless, that AL roster looks to be the nuts in my opinion with it comprised of a good mix of veterans and youngsters that will be eager to put their best foot forward. I’m never one to bet against heavy streaks, and the AL’s recent dominance of this exhibition mustn’t be taken for granted. If it’s confirmed the humidor is off for the actual game, I’d also recommend hitting the over on the MLB odds with the bats destined to hold the advantage due to numerous fantastic arms from the National League sitting this one out.
