Detroit Red Wings 2025-26 NHL Betting Lines

Detroit Red Wings NHL Betting Lines

During the 2024-25 season, the Detroit Red Wings were sparked by a coaching change to emerge in a playoff position, only to collapse and miss the postseason. Then, Red Wings have hit the golf links early every season since 2017, but last year was the second consecutive season that they were knocking at the door. Fans and gamblers are getting frustrated with the slow pace of general manager Steve Yzerman’s rebuild. Thus, 2025-26 is viewed as a season that must conclude with a playoff berth. Last year, head coach. Todd McClellan took over as head coach after a 13-17-4 start and oversaw a 26-18-4 improvement, sparking optimism.

Off-Season Moves for 2025-26

In: James van Riemsdyk, Mason Appleton, Jacob Bernard-Docker, John Gibson

Out: Vladimir Tarasenko, Tyler Motte, Jeff Petry, Alex Lyon, Petr Mrazek

The Red Wings may have mostly operated around the edges, but the team looks better because of it, even if none of the players they brought in appear to bring a lot to the table. James van Riemsdyk and Mason Appleton aren’t anything special, but it's better than playing someone like Tyler Motte. Jacob Bernard-Docker doesn’t look like much either, but if the alternative is Jeff Petry or Justin Holl, that’s a small win for the Red Wings, too.

The biggest change, though, is between the pipes. John Gibson’s track record has been spotty of late, but he looked genuinely locked in last season and should provide a more stable presence over Alex Lyon.

It’s a patchwork job, and the team still needs work overall to make the postseason, but the Red Wings do look incrementally more competitive.

Credit to GM Steve Yzerman for finally finding a new home for Gibson. That pre-free agency trade felt like a long time coming and not only gives Gibson a fresh start but also upgrades Detroit's goaltending situation (which was a clear priority heading into the offseason).

Depth is a good thing to have. But the Red Wings needed a bigger name to boost their back end and would have also benefited from improved top-six scoring potential. Those areas may still require attention.

Key Players

RW Lucas Raymond led the Red Wings in 2023-24 with 31 goals, 41 assists, and a -12. It was the best season of his career. Raymond was the 4th overall pick of the Red Wings in 2020. The native of Sweden was on the 2022 NHL All-Rookie Team. Last season, Raymond had 27 goals, 53 assists, and 80 points to lead the team.

C Dylan Larkin, age 27, has been a regular with the Red Wings since 2015. In 2024, he scored a career-high 33 goals, along with 36 assists and 69 points. Larkin is a 3-time All-Star. He has scored 31 or more goals in the past three seasons. Larkin had 30 goals, 40 assists, and 70 points this past season.

LW Alex DeBrincat, age 26, started his NHL career in 2017 with the Chicago Blackhawks. After leaving the Blackhawks in 2022, he played for the Ottawa Senators a year before joining the Red Wings. In his first season with the Red Wings, DeBrincat scored 27 goals, 40 assists, and 67 points. DeBrincat is a 2-time NHL All-Star. This past season, DeBrincat had 39 goals, 31 assists, and 70 points.

D Moritz Seider, 23, is coming off his fourth season with Detroit. In 2024, he scored nine goals, recorded 33 assists, and totaled 42 points. Seider made the 2022 NHL All-Rookie Team. This year, he has eight goals, 38 assists, and 46 points.

Goaltenders

Goaltender Cam Talbot arrived from the Los Angeles Kings. He has been a journeyman who is now with his eighth team. Talbot is a two-time NHL All-Star. For the Kings, he was 27-20-6 with a 2.50 goals-against average and a .913 save percentage. However, Talbot was lit up in the playoffs with a 5.30 GAA and a .861 save percentage. This past year, Talbot had a 2.93 goals against average and a .900 save percentage. His record was 21-19-5 with two shutouts.

Head Coach

Head coach Derek Lalonde took over as head coach of the Red Wings in 2022. He was fired after a 13-17-4 start. Todd McLellan, most recently the former head coach of the Los Angeles Kings, took over. He was also the head coach of the Edmonton Oilers and San Jose Sharks.
