Two fighters who are known for quick finishes meet at UFC 213 on July 8, as Chad Laprise takes on Brian Camozzi. Laprise comes into this fight with a record of 11-2 with five first round finishes, while Camozzi is 7-3 with six first round finishes. Laprise is taking this fight on short notice, as he replaces Alan Jouban who pulled out due to injury. This fight is one of four on the FS1 portion of the preliminary card, leading up to a four-fight main card, which features Amanda Nunes vs. Valentina Shevchenko. Let’s look at Laprise vs. Camozzi and UFC predictions.

Chad Laprise (11-2, 4-2 UFC)

Laprise started his career winning his first ten fights including his first three in the UFC. He defeated Olivier Aubin-Mercier and Yosdenis Cedeno in 2014 and then he beat Bryan Barberena in 2015. He suffered his first loss in 2015 as he was knocked out by Francisco Trinaldo. Laprise was beaten in a split decision by Ross Pearson in March of last year but he bounced back in August of last year to knock out Thibault Gouti.

Laprise said to the Blackburn News that fighting on short notice is no problem. “I called the UFC and told head match maker Sean Shelby that I’m ready and willing to step into his spot and that’s how it worked. Now I’m fighting in one of the biggest cards of the year in International Fight Week in Las Vegas,” said Laprise. It’s one of the biggest cards of the year and one of the biggest opportunities of my career and I’m going to go out there and make the most of it.”

It is all about striking for Laprise, who has just four takedowns in his last six fights. He figured to get a good matchup in this fight against Camozzi who is not afraid to go toe-to-toe in a slugfest.

Brian Camozzi (7-3, 0-1 UFC)

You might be more familiar with Chris Camozzi than you are with his brother Brian, as Brian has fought in the UFC just once, as he was beaten by Randy Brown at UFC Fight Night 102 last December.

Brian Camozzi has been a pro since 2013 and he has six first round finishes. He has four wins by submission in his career and three by knockout. Much of the success for Camozzi came in the Resurrection Fighting Alliance where he defeated Kenneth Glenn, Tyler Milner and Nick Barnes.

UFC Picks

This is an interesting matchup, as Laprise has the edge in striking, while Camozzi has the edge on the mat. The question is whether or not Camozzi will use his advantage on the mat or get drawn into a striking battle with Laprise. The best option for Camozzi would be to look for a quick takedown and win this fight on the ground. Whether Camozzi is smart enough to do that is the question. Camozzi has the edge in height and in reach so he should be able to dictate how this fight goes. I don’t think Camozzi has enough patience to avoid a slugfest but I am not totally sold on Laprise, so I will just take the rounds to go under the total.
