Arlington Handicap betting odds on Saturday

horse-racing_10.ar

A light weekend of horse racing is on tap in the second week of July, but that doesn't mean there aren't some important races available for betting.

The Arlington Handicap field won't be the strongest in the world, but there could be some real opportunities for bettors.

ODDS ANALYSIS

As of Wednesday afternoon, we still don't have a full list of colts running in this race, but there are some interesting ponies to follow for sure.

Triple Threat, who is pointing towards this race as a prep for the Arlington Million, would be the favorite if he runs. The French-bred and run colt had never run on American soil until last month, but he won the Monmouth Handicap by a nose and has proven to acclimate himself well to the American tracks.

The Pizza Man has won 13 of his 21 career races and should be amongst the favorites as well.

FAVORITE TO FOLLOW

We've spoken about a couple of the favorites in this race, but we want to point out just how strong Ashleyluvssugar has been as well. This California-bred colt is 6-for-11 in his career, and has won three of his five races here on the turf.

This year, Ashleyluvssugar has won a pair of Grade 2 races, running ridiculous Beyer Speed Ratings of 125 and 123 in the process.

Whereas Triple Threat is going to run from off of the pace, we know that Ashleyluvssugar is going to be just off from the leaders at the get go, and he’s proven that he can run from on the pace, too.

Jockey Gary Stevens seems to be the perfect match for this colt, and he should once again have the mount on Saturday at the Arlington Handicap.

UNDERDOG TO WATCH

Chocolate Ride is an interesting underdog who could make some noise at around 10 to 1 in this race.

He ran in the Turf Classic at Churchill Downs on Kentucky Derby day as a third favorite in a nine-horse field. He faded away relatively early on and never had a chance to get the job done in spite of the fact that he was highly touted coming in.

With a front-running style, Chocolate Ride is going to have a chance to flash some speed in a race without much of the sorts. Whether he can hold on is a significantly different story.

ANALYSIS AND PREDICTION

The French colt, Triple Threat is the real one to watch here in our eyes. We know that he is going to be counted out of this one early, running from the back of the pack, but if his run in the Grade 2 Monmouth Handicap was any indication, he could put on a real charge here in the last furlong or two.

Chocolate Ride probably won't have enough staying power, though adding him into your exotics might not be a terrible idea at a big price.

To us though, this race comes down to Triple Threat and Ashleyluvssugar, and we think that each is going to have good prices on their side. We wouldn't want either one as an odds on favorite, but either one at 3 to 1 would be fantastic. We'll pick Triple Threat here, but Ashleyluvssugar wouldn't surprise us either.
