Tyson Fury vs Deontay Wilder Preview

This is the third fight between Tyson Fury and Deontay Wilder. The first bout ended in a draw although Wilder sent Fury to the canvas twice, and Fury emerged victorious in the rematch. Wilder was the boxer knocked down twice this time before his trainers threw in the towel at the end of the seventh round.

Fury is going to have the size advantage going into this bout. He is one of the tallest heavyweight champions ever at 6’9 and that allowed him to show up at 273 pounds in the last fight. Wilder is a little shorter at 6’7, and he has tried to add more weight after coming in at 231 pounds back in February.

The Gypsy King is yet to lose as a professional boxer. Fury comes into this bout with a 30-0-1 record and 21 of his wins have come by knockout. He started coming to broader attention after his impressive wins over Derek Chisora and Christian Hammer led to a title shot against Wladimir Klitschko, and he became the unified champion in November 2015 after securing a unanimous decision win over the great Klitschko.

He didn’t enter the ring for over 30 months for a litany of reasons, but he finally returned and pummeled two minnows before his first bout against Wilder. Fury easily handled Tom Schwarz and Otto Wallin in between the rematch, and boxing fans are looking forward to seeing him again.

Wilder held the WBC heavyweight belt for over five years before losing it to Fury. He first won the title with a unanimous decision victory over Bermane Stiverne, making Stiverne the only opponent other than Fury that Wilder hasn’t knocked out. Wilder scored a first-round knockout off Stiverne in their rematch though, and he knocked out nine other fighters before losing the title.

It will be interesting to see if Wilder has any pre-fight shenanigans planned. Wilder came out in a heavy suit and mask for the last fight between these two, and it was clear that it had fatigued him. He wasn’t as overpowering as he usually is and he was fatigued after the first few rounds. That should lead to a more tame Wilder as he looks to win back his title.
