Shakur Stevenson vs Toka Kahn Clary Preview

Stevenson has been heralded as a future star since he was a teenager. He had a decorated amateur career, leading to him claiming a silver medal in the bantamweight division at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Brazil. Stevenson shined at the World Series of Boxing afterwards as an amateur before making the decision to turn pro on February 9, 2017.

The youngster showcased his skill immediately, and his first-round TKO of Viorel Simon led to his first title fight. Stevenson took on Jessie Cris Rosales in January 2019, defeating his opponent for two minor titles. He defended that those titles and added a third with wins over Chris Diaz and Alberto Guevara, leading to a title fight with Joet Gonzalez.

There was no doubt that Stevenson was the better boxer against Gonzalez. He claimed the vacant WBO featherweight belt by unanimous decision with all three judges scoring the fight 119-109 in his favor. Stevenson followed that up with a sixth-round knockout of Felix Caraballo, and he vacated the title to move up a month after that bout. His speed and quickness are tough to match, and his defensive prowess is fantastic for such a young fighter.

Clary is 28 years old, but he is already very seasoned. He took on a lot of opponents in his first few years as a professional, yet Clary has gone somewhat unnoticed despite his impressive record. His loss to Jhon Gemino set him back a little bit, but he defeated 13-0 David Berna to win the NABA featherweight belt three years ago.

That victory was followed up by another big win over 19-0 John Vincent Moralde, and he faced his toughest opponent yet when he took on 24-0 Kid Galahad. Clary wasn’t able to get past Galahad, but he has won his last three fights ahead of this showdown with Stevenson.
