Rey Vargas vs. O’Shaquie Foster Boxing Odds

Rey Vargas vs. O’Shaquie Foster Boxing Betting

Early in the year, we’ve seen main events highlighted by boxers from the lighter weight classes. That will again be the case on Super Bowl Weekend as the biggest event in the boxing world will feature Rey Vargas looking to become a three-division world champion against O’Shaquie Foster. Vargas (36-0 with 22 knockouts) was extremely impressive as a super bantamweight, but he might be biting off more than he can chew against an experienced super featherweight in Foster (19-2 with 11 knockouts).

Currently, only two of the five boxing federations have an active super featherweight champion as we have seen a lot of movement in the division. Rey Vargas can make a name for himself if he decides to remain a super featherweight for a while, but O’Shaquie Foster has his eyes set on his first world championship. This fight will take place on Saturday, February 11, 2023, at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas. The main card will be broadcast on ShowTime starting at 9 p.m. ET.

When:Saturday, February 11, 2023

Rey Vargas vs. O’Shaquie Foster Betting Odds

O’Shaquie Foster +177

Rey Vargas -227

The oddsmakers have made this a somewhat even fight by the boxing betting odds. While Rey Vargas is unbeaten in his professional career, he narrowly won his last fight at a lower division, so it’s hard to make him too much of a favorite by the boxing betting line here.

As the fight nears, there will be decision betting too. You will be able to bet on whether the fight is decided by KO, TKO, or decision, and you can bet on which boxer will win the fight in that fashion as well.

Rey Vargas vs. O’Shaquie Foster Preview

Two-division world champion Rey Vargas began his professional career back in April 2010. Vargas won the IBF Youth super bantamweight title in his 11th fight, and he added the WBC Youth Silver super bantamweight belt and the WBC International Silver super bantamweight title over the next couple years.

Eventually, Vargas ran his record to 28-0, and he had to be given a title shot at that point. In February 2017, he took on Gavin McDonnell for the WBC super bantamweight belt, and he ended up winning a majority decision that wasn’t as close as you might think. Vargas won 117-111, 116-112, and 114-114 on the scorecards despite having to face McDonnell in his home country.

After defeating McDonnell, he was more impressive in his subsequent title defenses. Vargas scored unanimous decision victories over all five of his opponents while he was holding the WBC super bantamweight belt.

Unfortunately, Vargas was out of the ring for almost two-and-a-half years after breaking his leg in training. When he returned, he decided to move to featherweight, and he dominated Leonardo Baez in his debut. However, Vargas nearly lost his first professional fight when he faced Mark Magsayo for the WBC featherweight title last July. He was knocked down and had to settle for a split decision win over Magsayo. That makes it a little puzzling why he would decide to move up again so soon.

O’Shaquie Foster won his first eight fights to start his professional career, but then he lost to Samuel Teah and Rolando Chinea in the span of eight months. That threatened to relegate him to second-tier status, especially after two of his next three wins were majority decision victories, but he was able to rejuvenate his career with a big time upset over Jon Fernandez.

That victory put him back on the fast track to success, and he made three defenses of the WBC Silver super featherweight belt before this bout. Unlike Vargas, he has shown a good amount of power in his recent fights too, and that’s important considering Foster has the reach edge and is comfortable at this weight class.
