Juan Francisco Estrada vs. Roman Gonzalez Boxing Betting

Two multiple division champions will meet with the WBC and The Ring super flyweight championship belts on the line the first weekend of December when Roman Gonzalez takes on Juan Francisco Estrada. Gonzalez (51-3 with 41 knockouts) lost a split decision to Estrada (43-3 with 28 knockouts) in March 2021, but he defeated Estrada by unanimous decision in November 2012. That makes this your more traditional trilogy with each boxer winning one of the previous fights, unlike the trilogy between Tyson Fury and Derek Chisora taking place the same weekend.

On Saturday, December 3, 2022, Roman Gonzalez and Juan Francisco Estrada will meet for the third time to see who is the superior fighter. This fight will be broadcast from Gila River Arena in Glendale, Arizona on DAZN.

When: Saturday, December 3, 2022

Roman Gonzalez vs Juan Francisco Estrada Preview

Roman “Chocolatito” Gonzalez has been one of the most impressive boxers in the world over the last 15 years. He is a four-division world champion, claiming titles at minimumweight, light flyweight, flyweight, and super flyweight. Unlike most boxers his size, he has a high knockout rate too as he constantly tries to press the pace and put his opponents on the defensive.

Chocolatito was 20-0 before he took part in his first major title fight. He defeated Yutaka Niida by fourth-round TKO to claim the WBA minimumweight belt, and he went on to defend that title three times in the span of a year before making the move to light flyweight. Chocolatito claimed the WBA light flyweight title in late 2010, and he defended that belt five times, taking on Juan Francisco Estrada for the first time in his last title defense.

Soon after, he made the move to flyweight and pushed his record to 40-0 with a win over Akira Yaegashi for the WBC and The Ring flyweight belts. Gonzalez successfully defended those two titles four times before becoming a four-division champion with his unanimous decision victory over Carlos Cuadras for the WBC super flyweight belt.

That’s where Chocolatito finally ran into someone he couldn’t defeat. He was 46-0 when he lost a majority decision to Srisaket Sor Rungvisai, and he was knocked out by Sor Rungvisai in the rematch six months later. Chocolatito claimed the WBA super flyweight title with a unanimous decision victory over Israel Gonzalez two years ago, but he lost that title to Estrada in their rematch.

As for Estrada, he was 26-1 heading into his first fight with Gonzalez. That was his first chance at a major title, and it was an eye opener. Estrada moved to flyweight after the defeat, and he won a split decision over Brian Viloria to claim the WBA and WBO flyweight titles. We saw him defend those titles five times in a little over two years before making the jump to super flyweight.

Estrada also lost a contested decision against Sor Rungvisai, but he has been on a mission since that defeat in February 2018. He has won seven straight fights since that loss, beating Sor Rungvisai by unanimous decision in a rematch to take the WBC and The Ring super flyweight belts. Estrada also has knocked off Carlos Cuadras and Gonzalez in that stretch, so he is worth backing as an underdog here.
