Both of these fighters are unbeaten, but the oddsmakers put a lot more stock in what we have seen from Josh Taylor. He is a huge favorite per the boxing betting odds. If you are unfamiliar with betting on boxing, a $1350 bet on Taylor would return $100 if he were to successfully defend his titles. A $100 bet on Catterall to pull off the upset would net bettors a hefty $707 profit if he were to give Taylor his first loss.

As the fight nears, there will be decision betting too. You will be able to bet on whether the fight is decided by KO, TKO, or decision, and you can bet on which boxer will win the fight in that fashion as well.

Josh Taylor vs Jack Catterall Preview

The Tartan Tornado has been extremely impressive as a professional boxer. Josh Taylor never went to the Summer Olympics as an amateur, but he made a name for himself by winning silver at the 2010 Commonwealth Games and gold at the 2014 Commonwealth Games. Taylor began his career as a professional fighter the year after winning the gold medal in Scotland.

Taylor knocked out his first six opponents in the first two rounds. He won the Commonwealth light welterweight belt in his seventh fight, and he added the WBC Silver light welterweight title in July 2017 with a TKO of Ohara Davis. Taylor held that belt until he defeated Ivan Baranchyk by unanimous decision in May 2019 to win the IBF light welterweight strap.

That led to a showdown with Regis Prograis for the WBA and The Ring light welterweight championships in the World Boxing Super Series Finals, and that turned out to be his toughest test to date. The bout went to the cards, and Taylor had to settle for a majority decision victory. He was much more decisive with a first-round knockout of Apinun Khongsung in his first title defense, and he won a unanimous decision over Jose Ramirez last May after knocking Ramirez to the canvas in back-to-back rounds.

Jack Catterall had a far less prestigious start to his career as both an amateur and a professional. Although he won the WBO Inter-Continental light welterweight championship in March 2015, he was forced to defend that title six times before getting a shot at the British light welterweight belt.

This is Catterall’s first shot at a major title. He was supposed to take on Jose Ramirez in 2020, but he agreed to step aside in order to allow a unification title fight. Catterall and Taylor were originally supposed to square off in mid-December, but the fight was pushed back two months after Taylor suffered a leg injury during training.

Taylor has a three-inch height advantage on Catterall, but the champion doesn’t have much of a reach edge on the challenger. Still, he is far more seasoned even if Catterall has faced some solid opponents despite this being his first major title fight.
