Jermell Charlo vs Brian Castano Boxing Lines

Jermell Charlo vs Brian Castano Boxing Betting

One of the best fights last year was between Jermell Charlo and Brian Castano. Charlo and Castano fought to fully unify the light middleweight division, and the winner would have been the undisputed champion. However, the two fought to a split decision draw, setting up a rematch this year. Charlo (34-1-1 with 18 knockouts) was more of a favorite by the boxing betting odds in the first meeting, but the odds for Castano (17-0-2 with 12 knockouts) have shortened following their last fight.

All five of the light middleweight titles will be up for grabs on Saturday, May 14, 2022, when Jermell Charlo faces Brian Castano at Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, California. This fight will be available on Showtime with the main card getting underway at 9 p.m. ET.

Jermell Charlo vs Brian Castano Betting Odds

Jermell Charlo -180

Brian Castano +143

In their first fight, Jermell Charlo was a -285 favorite by the boxing betting odds over Brian Castano. Charlo was only a slight favorite when the rematch was scheduled earlier this year, but there has been a flurry of action since that point. We could see a lot of people bet on Castano in the coming days though given the move and his performance against Charlo last summer.

As the fight nears, there will be decision betting too. You will be able to bet on whether the fight is decided by KO, TKO, or decision, and you can bet on which boxer will win the fight in that fashion as well.

Jermell Charlo vs Brian Castano Preview

A win on Saturday night would be a nice early birthday present for Jermell Charlo. He turns 32 on May 19, and he has been one of the top boxers in the world for quite some time.

Charlo wasn’t seriously tested for several years as a professional fighter. He was able to run his record to 27-0 without much hassle, leading to an eventual title fight with John Jackson for the WBC light middleweight belt six years ago. Charlo was able to win by eighth-round TKO, and he knocked out Charles Hatley in the sixth round in his first title defense and finished Erickson Lubin before the end of the first round in his second title defense.

We started to see some cracks in Charlo’s game during his June 2018 fight with Austin Trout. Charlo was unable to finish Trout within the distance, having to settle for a majority decision win over his opponent to retain his title. That preceded a loss to Tony Harrison, and that was a wake-up call for Charlo.

Charlo proceeded to knockout Jorge Cota and then defeated Harrison in the rematch. He went on to win the WBA, IBF, and The Ring light middleweight titles with his eighth-round knockout of Jeison Rosario in September 2020 prior to last year’s showdown with Castano.

Brian Castano doesn’t have the same name recognition as Charlo, but he has been a champion for nearly as long as his opponent and has yet to lose a fight. Castano claimed the interim WBA light middleweight championship by beating Emmanuel de Jesus in November 2016, and he successfully defended the title with a split decision win over Michel Soro before the interim tag was taken off following his win over Cedric Vitu.

Castano has fought to split decision draws in his last two fights. He ended up settling for draws against Erislandy Lara and Charlo, and he comes into this bout with the WBO light middleweight belt around his waist after beating Patrick Teixeira.

The tale of the tape shows Charlo with a significant height advantage. He is 5’11 compared to the 5’7 and a half Castano, and he has a six-inch reach advantage too.
