Jake Paul vs. Andre August Boxing Betting Odds

Jake Paul vs. Andre August Boxing Betting

Saying he wants to be a world champion boxer and that he must compete against fighters with a boxing history in order to do so, Jake Paul will take on Andre August in a cruiserweight bout as a heavy favorite. This is a change in direction for Paul, who in his boxing career has mostly faced UFC fighters in crossover matches. The fight doesn’t have the marquee attraction of Paul’s previous fights, but he is listening to his critics, who have long said Paul needs to fight legitimate boxers.

He’s not a household name in the boxing world but August is a boxer by trade meeting the criteria set forth by Paul. And because of that August will be the most experienced fighter Paul has faced in the ring. That didn’t have much of an impact on oddsmakers who pegged Paul a massive -550 favorite on the opening boxing betting line. August has 10 wins and a draw in 12 professional fights with most of them club bouts against sketchy competition. And this will be August’s first attempt at lasting eight rounds. He talks a big game but August is a +379 dog.

The 8-round cruiserweight bout between Jake Paul ( 7-1, 4 KOs ) and Andre August ( 10-1-1, 5 KOs ) will take place on Saturday, December 15, 2023 at Caribe Royale Hotel in Orlando, Fla. The fight will be streamed on DAZN and is not a pay-per-view.

Jake Paul vs. Andre August Fight Preview

With so much on the line for the YouTuber I doubt his handlers would book a fight that they didn’t think Paul could win. Throughout his career his opponents have been older with little to no boxing experience. Hell, one of his earlier fights was against a former professional basketball player. Paul is stepping into the ring with a legitimate boxer who’s had a successful career. Part of the storyline remains the same in that August has around 10 years on Paul, but the challenger isn’t taking this fight lightly.

It also appears as though Paul is serious about this fight and his career inside the ring. He’s transitioning away from crossover bouts with mixed martial artists and is looking to get his boxing career on track. After winning his first six fights beating former UFC champions Tyron Woodley twice and Anderson Silva in the last three, Paul suffered defeat for the first time. And it was against a fighter with boxing experience. Paul was stopped on points by Tommy Fury back in February with Fury improving his career record to 9-0.

That was a good test for Paul who not only went 10 rounds for the first time but also scored the only knockdown dropping Fury in the eighth round. In the end, though, it wasn’t enough against a more skilled and technical fighter. And if there’s a path to beating Paul it was exposed in that fight. Paul had trouble when pinned against the ropes and too often tried to punch when backing up. That could work against an inexperienced boxer but not against a fighter who knows how to counter and jab.

35 you might expect a boxer to have more fights on his resume. August has just 12 career decisions with five of his 10 wins by KO. He had a break of nearly four years between unanimous decision wins over Santario Martin and Brandon Martin but the latter took place just a few months ago so August at least has recent experience. August is several inches shorter than Paul at 5-foot-10, but his stocky build will make it difficult for him to go down. And if August learned anything from watching past Paul fights he’ll know to keep his distance. I think this fight will be much closer than the odds suggest and I’m not opposed to dropping a few bucks on August for the upset.

Bet Jake Paul vs. Andre August

By all accounts Paul is serious about his boxing career and this fight. So much so that he’s leaving money on the table by not making this a pay-per-view. His only fight against an opponent with a boxing background resulted in a loss giving August hope that he can do what Fury did. And dropping a few bucks on the underdog yields a nice payout for the upset. I’m not going to back Paul for the win at his price and I don’t think he can KO his opponent making a decision the likely method while shifting odds in my favor.
