Gervonta Davis vs. Ryan Garcia Boxing Betting

There won’t be a championship belt on the line when Ryan Garcia takes on Gervonta Davis next week, but this still figures to be one of the best fights of the year. Garcia (23-0 with 19 knockouts) is a former interim WBC lightweight champion, while Davis (28-0 with 26 knockouts) is the current WBA lightweight champion and a former title holder at super featherweight too. The winner of this fight could face either Devin Haney or Vasyl Lomachenko in a full unification fight or fellow unbeaten Shakur Stevenson in another massive clash between lightweights.

These two former title holders will meet on Saturday, April 22, 2023, at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. This event will be available on Showtime PPV with the broadcast starting at 8 p.m. ET. Ring walks for the main event between Ryan Garcia and Gervonta Davis are expected to take place around 11 p.m. ET.

Gervonta Davis vs. Ryan Garcia Betting Odds

Ryan Garcia +194

Gervonta Davis -250

Total Rounds 7.5

This is seen as a pretty even fight according to the oddsmakers. Gervonta Davis is the favorite by the boxing betting odds at -250, but Ryan Garcia has more than a punchers’ chance. Since this is a catchweight fight, there is a serious size discrepancy between these fighters as Garcia is 5’10 and Davis 5’5 ½. Additionally, Garcia has a 70-inch reach compared to a 67.5-inch reach for Davis.

As the fight nears, there will be decision betting too. You will be able to bet on whether the fight is decided by KO, TKO, or decision, and you can bet on which boxer will win the fight in that fashion as well.

Gervonta Davis vs. Ryan Garcia Preview

A loss here would be devastating for Gervonta Davis. He is seen as one of the brightest stars in boxing, and he is already a two-division champion at the age of 28. However, many potential fans have soured on him due to his numerous legal issues. Davis has been arrested on five different occasions over the last six years, and his last arrest nearly led to his fight with Hector Garcia in January being cancelled.

There is no denying Davis’ immense talent though. Davis has never been seriously tested in the ring, knocking out 26 of his 28 opponents over his decade-long professional career. German Meraz and Isaac Cruz are the only two fighters that were able to go the distance against him, and Davis won a unanimous decision victory over both boxers. He has incredible power for a fighter his size, so he can never be overlooked even when he is at a significant height and reach disadvantage.

Ryan Garcia has been nearly as impressive as Davis during his professional career. Garcia has knocked out 19 of his 23 opponents, and he was only really tested one time. That came in September 2018 when he had to settle for a majority decision victory over Carlos Morales, but he bounced back from that shaky performance to finish his next five opponents inside of seven rounds. Garcia knocked out both Romero Duno and Francisco Fonseca in the first round, and he scored a seventh round TKO of Luke Campbell to win the interim WBC lightweight title.

Garcia had to give up the interim belt not long after he won it after backing out of a fight with Javier Fortuna. He was supposed to take on Joseph Diaz for the interim title a few months later, but he had to pull out of that fight too after injuring his hand. Since then, he has fought former lightweight champion Emmanuel Tagoe and dominated him in an easy unanimous decision victory, and he scored three knockdowns before knocking out Fortuna in the sixth round back in July.

Davis is the deserved favorite here, but Garcia is a strong enough fighter to deserve a long look at this price given his reach advantage and size edge.
