Gervonta Davis vs. Rolando Romero Boxing Betting

This might be the last time we see Gervonta Davis in the ring for quite some time. Davis was indicted on 14 charges last March for allegedly driving with a suspended license and running a red light, subsequently hitting another car and then fleeing the scene while all four occupants in the other vehicle were injured. He refused a plea deal that would have resulted in jail time two months ago, and he is set to have his day in court in September. Davis is facing several years in prison if he is found guilty on all charges.

Davis (26-0 with 24 knockouts) will defend his WBA lightweight belt against Rolando Romero (14-0 with 12 knockouts) on Saturday, May 28, 2022. This fight will take place at the Barclays Center in New York City, and it will be televised on Showtime PPV.

Gervonta Davis vs Rolando Romero Betting Odds

Gervonta Davis -1700

Rolando Romero +805

The oddsmakers believe that Davis will be fully locked in on Saturday night, as he is a heavy favorite by the boxing betting odds against Romero. For those unfamiliar with betting on boxing, at this price you would need to bet $1700 on Davis to win $100. A $100 bet on Romero would result in an $805 profit if he were to pull off the upset.

As the fight nears, there will be decision betting too. You will be able to bet on whether the fight is decided by KO, TKO, or decision, and you can bet on which boxer will win the fight in that fashion as well.

Gervonta Davis vs Rolando Romero Preview

There are only a handful of boxers that are more talented than Gervonta Davis across all divisions. Davis has knocked out 24 of his 26 opponents, and he still has a lot of fight in him considering he is just 27 years old. He has won titles in three weight classes, and that’s a huge credit to his pugilistic prowess.

Davis won his first title in January 2017. He scored a seventh round TKO over Jose Pedraza to claim the IBF super featherweight belt, and he easily defended that belt four months later with a TKO of Liam Walsh in the third round. Unfortunately, he had to give up the belt the day before his bout with Francisco Fonseca as he missed weight, but he easily beat Fonseca the following day.

He was 19-0 coming into his WBA super featherweight title fight with Jesus Cuellar, and he claimed the belt in the third round and went on to defend the title twice with even faster knockouts. That signaled a move to lightweight, and he defeated Yuriorkis Gamboa to win the WBA lightweight title in December 2019. Davis defended that title against Leo Santa Cruz and then won the WBA super lightweight title against Mario Barrios last summer.

Rolando Romero is dealing with his own legal issues. Romero and Davis were originally supposed to meet in December, but Romero was replaced after sexual assault allegations were levied against him. No criminal charges were filed, so he is now in the clear to take on Davis.

Romero has showcased a lot of power, but he has only faced a couple quality opponents in his short career. He won the interim WBA lightweight title by unanimous decision over Jackson Marinez in August 2020, and he successfully defended the belt against Anthony Yigit last July with a seventh round knockout. This is a huge step up in skill for Romero though.

The underdog does have the advantage in terms of measurements. Romero is 5’8 with a 68-inch reach, while Davis is 5’5 with a 67.5-inch reach. However, it’s still hard to imagine Romero pulling off the upset even with this in mind.
