Errol Spence Jr. vs Yordenis Ugas Boxing Betting

Ugas (27-4 with 12 knockouts) is coming off a surprise win over Manny Pacquiao last August, but he is a significant underdog by the boxing betting odds.

Why: WBC, IBF, and WBA welterweight titles

Errol Spence Jr. vs Yordenis Ugas Betting Odds

Errol Spence Jr. -525

Yordenis Ugas +365

Spence is still something of an unknown after his car accident, but that hasn’t stopped the oddsmakers from making him a sizeable favorite by the boxing betting odds. If you are unfamiliar with betting on boxing, a $525 bet on Spence would return a $100 profit if he were to win. A $100 bet on Ugas as the underdog could potentially bring in $365 if he were to prove the oddsmakers wrong.

As the fight nears, there will be decision betting too. You will be able to bet on whether the fight is decided by KO, TKO, or decision, and you can bet on which boxer will win the fight in that fashion as well.

Errol Spence Jr. vs Yordenis Ugas Preview

These were both decorated amateur fighters. Errol Spence was a three-time US national champion in the welterweight division. He was unable to win gold at the 2012 Summer Olympics, but he hasn’t lost since that point. Spence showcased his power with knockouts in 18 of his first 21 fights, and that led to a title shot against Kell Brook in May 2017.

The American went across the pond and knocked out Brook in the 11th round to claim the IBF welterweight title. Spence followed that up with a seventh-round TKO over Lamont Peterson, and he knocked out Carlos Ocampo at the end of the first round five months later.

Spence couldn’t knock out Mikey Garcia, but he completely dominated the fight to win all 12 rounds in his third title defense. His last two fights haven’t been as decisive though. He had to settle for a split decision victory over Showtime Shawn Porter to stay unbeaten, and he could only secure a moderate unanimous decision over Danny Garcia in his first fight since his crash. Spence hasn’t entered the ring in 16 months, so there are concerns about what we will see from him.

Yordenis Ugas won multiple titles as an amateur boxer with Cuba and claimed the bronze medal at the 2008 Summer Olympics. Ugas won his first 11 fights as a professional boxer, but he dealt with real setbacks with three losses over a seven-fight stretch between 2012 and 2014. That tested the Olympic medalist, but he shook those defeats off to win eight straight fights and set up a showdown with Porter for the WBC welterweight title.

Ugas wasn’t given much of a chance to beat Porter by the boxing betting odds, but he lost a split decision that most in attendance felt he should have won. That led to another title shot 18 months later, and Ugas lifted the belt this time with a split decision win over Abel Ramos. He successfully defended the belt over Manny Pacquiao in August as Ugas used his significant size and reach to score a unanimous decision win.

Spence has the height and reach advantage this time, so Ugas will have to get inside if he wants to pull off the upset.
