Caleb Plant vs David Benavidez Boxing Betting

Two of the world’s best super middleweights will meet in one of the most anticipated fights of this young year when David Benavidez defends his interim WBC super middleweight belt against Caleb Plant. Benavidez (26-0 with 23 knockouts) is a sizeable favorite per the boxing betting odds, as he is looking to be elevated to permanent champion in order to grab this specific title for the third time. Meanwhile, Plant (22-1 with 13 knockouts) is a former IBF super middleweight title holder, but he lost the belt in a unification bout with the great Canelo Alvarez in November 2021. A win here would be huge for Plant, re-establishing him in the S-Tier of boxers.

This interim WBC super middleweight title fight between David Benavidez and Caleb Plant will take place at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Paradise, Nevada. This will be the fourth time that Plant has fought here, and it is the second appearance for Benavidez at the MGM Grand. These fighters will square off on Saturday, March 25, 2023, at 9 p.m. ET with Showtime PPV broadcasting the action.

When: Saturday, March 25, 2023

Caleb Plant vs David Benavidez Betting Odds

Caleb Plant +267

David Benavidez -360

Total Rounds 9.5

Since he is an unbeaten fighter with a high knockout rate, David Benavidez is a logical favorite by the boxing betting odds in this bout. You would have to wager $360 to win $100 on Benavidez at this price. However, a $100 bet on Plant would not be a bad idea since he has only lost to Canelo Alvarez, and it would return a $267 profit at these odds.

As the fight nears, there will be decision betting too. You will be able to bet on whether the fight is decided by KO, TKO, or decision, and you can bet on which boxer will win the fight in that fashion as well.

Caleb Plant vs David Benavidez Preview

David Benavidez might be the successor to Canelo Alvarez as the next Mexican superstar boxer. Although he was born in Phoenix, Arizona, Benavidez’s father was Mexican, and he is known as The Mexican Monster and La Bandera Roja. He began his professional career in Mexico too, as his first seven fights (all knockouts with six of the seven in the first round) took place south of the border.

Benavidez was seen as a phenom entering his title fight with Ronald Gavril on September 8, 2017. He was 18-0 with 17 of those wins coming by knockout, but Gavril proved to be his toughest test yet. Benavidez had to settle for a split decision victory, although the scoring was a little curious as two judges went 117-111 and 116-111 for Benavidez and the third judge went 116-111 for Gavril. Still, it was a title victory for The Mexican Monster, and he became the youngest champion at super middleweight in boxing history.

Given the nature of Benavidez’s victory, there was an immediate rematch with Gavril. This time, Benavidez left no doubt, as he scored a unanimous decision victory. Unfortunately, he was stripped of the belt after testing positive for cocaine, but he has since proceeded to knockout all of his opponents including J’Leon Love, Anthony Dirrell, and David Lemieux.

Before turning to boxing, Caleb Plant was an elite kickboxer with multiple world championships as an amateur. However, he decided to get into the ring in May 2014, and he showed the doubters that he had similar power with his fists. Plant won his first 17 fights to set up a title showdown with Jose Uzcategui in January 2019. He ended up securing a unanimous decision to claim the IBF super middleweight belt, and he made three title defenses before he lost the belt to Canelo Alvarez.

Plant was able to shake off that defeat with a ninth-round knockout of Anthony Dirrell in October. He upset a lot of boxing fans by imitating that he was digging Dirrell’s grave after the knockout, and he might regret that celebration.
