Fight Preview

Canelo Alvarez has not stepped into the ring since that previous draw against Golovkin. In fact, these two were supposed to fight on May 5 but Canelo was disqualified due to a banned substance that was found in a drug test. Canelo says it was due to not being fully aware of the risks of eating beef in Mexico. As it is he also claimed to have never used performance enhancing drugs and that he is now clean and ready for this mega fight rematch. He said that he did not do anything intentionally but that he was unaware of farming techniques of raising beef in his home country and accepted responsibility to become better informed. In fact, he has quit eating beef entirely regardless of what country it is made in.

Alvarez has also shown braggadocio about the incident claiming that Golovkin’s camp knows that they are going to lose the fight and therefore are already cooking up excuses for failure.

That being said Canelo has also complimented Golovkin for his toughness and for being the true champion that he is. Golovkin has taken the high road stating that this fight is great for the sport and its fans promising that the energy will be off the charts for this HBO unification title bout.

Meanwhile after last year’s disputed draw Golovkin and many experts believe that he will have to go for the knockout in order to secure victory. While most believe that Golovkin should have gotten the win last year the final result was a split decision draw.

Although Canelo came out strong early in the first fight between these two the fact is that Golovkin closed well and was the aggressor in the later rounds. Further complicating things for Golovkin is the fact that Alvarez is very difficult to hurt in the ring. Canelo’s lone defeat was by decision to Floyd Mayweather.

This HBO fight is a dream matchup for both gamblers and aficionados due to the fact that Golovkin and Canelo are two of the very best pound for pound fighters in the game. Beyond that as the first fight proved, this is even of a fight as one could hope to find. Additionally, Golovkin vs. Alvarez II is not expected to be at all passive but instead action filled with two boxers on the attack.

Boxing Betting Tips

This is a golden opportunity for Canelo to win the world unification title and redeem himself for the incident last spring. Beyond that in an even matchup taking the quality dog is always a smart move.
