Fight Preview

When Canelo Alvarez and Daniel Jacobs step into the T-Mobile Arena ring for their unification middleweight title fight there is the strong possibility of an epic clash. Both are acclaimed as the two best fighters in the middleweight class with Gennady Golovkin also in the conversation as a man that narrowly defeated Jacobs and lost to Canelo by a small margin. Alvarez is universally considered to be the best pound for pound boxer in the sport.

The greatness and versatility of Canelo was best evident in his last fight, which was against Rocky Fielding. Alvarez stepped into the ring against an opponent that was four inches taller with a four-and-a-half-inch reach advantage. From the beginning of the fight it was obvious that none of that would matter. Canelo dominated from the start and had his way with Fielding. Alvarez pummeled Fielding with a host of body shots that rendered him helpless. In fact, Alvarez dropped Fielding a total of four times with the fight ending in a third-round technical knockout.

In this fight Jacobs will also have the size and reach advantage with three and a half more inches by height and three extra inches by reach. The key is that Jacobs will have to maintain his distance from Canelo to avoid his devastating punching power.

Canelo’s toughness is another key advantage in this matchup against Jacobs. When Alvarez defeated Golovkin he was able to withstand several shots and keep coming back for more. In fact, Canelo was able to handle everything that Golovkin had to offer. That bodes well for a matchup against Jacobs, who possesses the ability to knock out an opponent with one punch.

Canelo has superior counter punching ability that was best displayed in his win over Golovkin. As hard as Golovkin would come at Alvarez, Canelo would have a more devastating answer. Jacobs is a boxer that will go on offense, taking the attack with the idea of a knockout blow.

“I am happy to announce my next fight during the festive weekend of Cinco de Mayo,” said Canelo. “I will unify my middleweight titles against Daniel Jacobs on one of the two most important dates that belong to me. I have no doubt I will be victorious and that I’ll be one step away from becoming the undisputed middleweight world champion. And what a batter way to watch it than on as tremendous a platform as DAZN.”

“This is the opportunity I have been waiting for,” said Jacobs. “The opportunity to achieve greatness inside the ring. I have always believed I can beat Canelo.”

Boxing Betting Tips

Daniel Jacobs merits a considerable amount of respect and is a capable and dangerous underdog. But Canelo is a notch above as the best on Earth.
