Fight Preview

So far defending champion Gervonta Davis has not shown a lot of fear in regards to his upcoming title defense bout against Ricardo Nunez.

“Man, I ain’t gonna lie,” Davis said, “I gotta go hurry up and get off this interview because I’ve gotta go running. He said it ain’t going the distance. I’m scared, man. So, I’ve gotta hurry up and get this work in. It’s going down. For real. I’m a little embarrassed now.”

As for the far lesser known and 32nd in the world ranked Nunez he is not backing off or showing fear in preparation for his matchup against the second ranked super flyweight in the world.

“It’s gonna be a great fight,” Nunez said. “It’s gonna be a great, great show that we’re gonna have. If you look at our records, it’s two rivals that the percentage of knockouts are high. I think he has one more knockout than me during his career. So that’s why this fight is gonna be action-packed, because we both are knockout artists. I definitely don’t think this is gonna go the full (12) rounds because, as I said before, the high percentage of knockouts. So, somebody’s definitely going down.”

Additionally, Nunez is dedicating this fight to his about to be born daughter which will serve as extra motivation.

"My daughter is about to be born and with her in mind I am working very hard for this fight,'' saidNunez. "I am dedicating this fight to my daughter and Panama, which has always supported me. I'm thankful for this opportunity and although some people don't know much about me, after July 27, everyone will know me as the new champion of the world."

Davis is the first world champion from Baltimore defend his title at home in almost 80 years when Henry Jeffra defended the world featherweight title in 1940. For Davis this opportunity is a dream come true.

"It was always a goal of mine to bring a world title fight back to my city of Baltimore," said Davis. "I'm excited and grateful to my team for helping make this happen on Saturday, July 27. I can't wait to put on a great show and to see all my supporters in Baltimore help me make it a night to remember at Royal Farms Arena."
