Boxing Odds – Gennady Golovkin vs. Vanes Martirosyan Betting Preview

2018-Boxing-Gennady-Golovkin-vs-Vanes-Martirosyan-Odds

Gennady Golovkin has one minor blemish on an otherwise perfect record. In his last bout for the Middleweight Unification title against the famed Saul “Canelo” Alvarez, Golovkin fought to an epic 12 round split decision in a memorable bout that immediately setup a rematch date. Golovkin and Canelo were set to go at it again to settle the championship once and for all. But Alvarez was disqualified last month, much to the chagrin and disappointment of millions of fight fans. Golovkin still wanted to fight, against anyone that would be available. So, it was quickly arranged that Vanes Martirosyan would fill the space that originally belonged to Canelo Alvarez. As a result, Golovkin will enter this bout as a heavy favorite against Martirosyan. The bout is at least a championship matchup on the marquee. The International Boxing Organization, World Boxing Association, and World Boxing Council Middleweight championship title belts will be on the line. But make no mistake about it Golovkin is an overwhelming favorite. The biggest question is whether or not Martirosyan has a “punchers chance.”

Fight Preview

The 36-year-old Gennady Golovkin has a career record of 37-0-1 with 33 of his 37 wins coming by knockout. He fights from an orthodox stance and stands at five feet, ten and one-half inches tall with a reach of 70 inches.

In his last bout Golovkin faces Canelo Alvarez in one of the most highly anticipated fights in years. Fortunately for all, the bout lived up to expectations. Although Alvarez garners a lot of hype Golovkin earned a great deal of respect by going toe to toe with him and earning the draw. Few rematch fights were as hyped as the scheduled Golovkin vs. Canelo showdown. Despite the disappointment of Alvarez failing to qualify it’s to Golovkin’s credit that he insisted on alternative title bout.

Prior to his draw against Canelo, Golovkin scored a 12 round unanimous decision win over Daniel Jacobs on March 18, 2017 at Madison Square Garden in New York. The bout was for the International Boxing Federation, International Boxing Organization, World Boxing Association, and World Boxing Council Middleweight titles.

Martirosyan has been boxing since the age of seven when he joined a gym near his childhood home. Twice Martirosyan has fought and lost title bouts for the Light Middleweight championship. From 2011 to 2012 he held the World Boxing Council Silver Light Middleweight title.

Boxing Betting Tips

There is absolutely no doubt that Golovkin clearly outclasses Martirosyan. Sure, the price is outrageous but the fact remains that Martirosyan has barely a chance. He is a last minute callup and fill in for Canelo and this fight is likely to get ugly. The only question is if Golovkin will be fully engaged. His career record indicates that is highly likely.
