Anthony Joshua vs. Dillian Whyte Preview

Joshua and Whyte fought eight years ago, but Joshua doesn’t consider Whyte a rival. “I’m definitely up for fighting. There are a lot of names in the division but look at what this fight does,” said Joshua to the media. “This fight does good business. Whyte is no longer a rival; I don’t see him that way. He’s just another body in the way.”

Whyte said he is unhappy he is not getting much respect heading into this fight. “I’m accustomed to life’s ups and downs. It’s disheartening that despite being one of the world’s top fighters, I’m still struggling as if I were at square one.” Whyte said to the media, “It’s been an arduous journey. The respect I should have earned seems elusive. Even if I conquer Joshua, the respect I rightfully deserve will still elude me. They’ll utter ridiculous claims like, ‘Oh, he was a shadow of himself. He was on the decline. He was this, he was that.’ The nonsense will persist.”

It is worth noting that Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearn did not want Joshua to take this fight, as it is all risk and no reward. Joshua is in line for a fight against Deontay Wilder but only if he beats Whyte.

Boxing Pick

I think it is interesting to note what Jermaine Franklin said about this fight. Joshua and Whyte are each coming off a victory over Franklin, so Franklin’s opinion is worth listening to. “I see AJ winning only because I kind of got adjusted to Dillian’s style early, and it didn’t really change,” Franklin said to the media, “He tried to change it a little bit but he kinda stayed the same. With Anthony, he’s just gonna use his jab a lot. If he can get Dillian to the point to where he’s got him kind of stagnant or he’s not doing a lot, the jab will win the fight easy. But, at the same time, Dillian does have a couple nice punches that he can throw. If he get in there he can do some damage, who knows how the fight may go. But I still think I got AJ coming out on points.”

I don’t think there is much doubt that Joshua is the better fighter and he should win this bout, but I am not laying 7-1. When the boxing rounds option comes out it could be worth taking the over, as this could be a fight that goes to a decision.
