Amir Khan vs Kell Brook Preview

There isn’t a title on the line, but this is going to be one of the most anticipated fights of 2022, especially for British boxing fans. Amir Khan and Kell Brook have repeatedly gone after each other in the media, and their dislike of one another is well-documented.

When asked about the fight, Khan didn’t mince words. He told Sky Sports, “What I’ve done in the sport, the name I’ve got, you can see how bitter he is. My celebrity status? That comes because of what I’ve achieved in the sport of boxing. It’s not because of other things. He can hate me as much as he wants. Once I beat him, he will hate me even more! Now I know that he hates me, it will only make me train harder.”

Khan also called this fight a step down for him compared to some of the bigger names he has taken on in the past, further pouring salt in the wound.

Regarding the disdain the fighters carry for each other, Kell Brook added: “It’s personal. It’s not made up. We dislike each other. I’ve got the grudge match of my career. I haven’t lost anything. I might be 35. But Terence Crawford is 34, so is Shawn Porter, and they just had an epic fight. I looked into his eyes, he knows that I’m coming. He never wanted this fight, but he’s been backed into a corner. I’ve wanted it for years.”

Khan won the WBA light welterweight belt in December 2009. He successfully defended the title five times before losing a split decision to Lamont Peterson, and then he was knocked out by Danny Garcia in his next fight. Khan hasn’t held a title belt in almost 10 years, but he is still one of the biggest names in boxing and challenged Canelo Alvarez for the middleweight title and Terence Crawford for the welterweight title. He was knocked out in the sixth round by both opponents.

Brook was 32-0 before winning a majority decision over Shawn Porter to claim the IBF welterweight belt in August 2014. He knocked out three challengers in the first six rounds before moving up to middleweight and being knocked out by Gennady Golovkin in the fifth round. Brook lost his IBF welterweight title after being knocked out by Errol Spence Jr. in his next fight, and he was dropped by Terence Crawford in November 2020. Those are the only three defeats of Brook’s career, and all three of those boxers are legends.
