NBA Sunday Opening Line Report

Three playoff spots are still unaccounted for in the Eastern Conference, and four teams are gunning for them. Brooklyn, Detroit, Miami, and Orlando are all looking to get into the postseason, and all four teams picked up wins on Saturday to keep pace. Currently, there is a half-game between each of the four teams with Detroit leading the way at 39-37 and Orlando 1.5 games back at 38-39. Brooklyn and Miami are in between those teams, and that race will have the most intrigue in the final five or six games.

Milwaukee Bucks at Atlanta Hawks (MIL -5.5, O/U 235.5)

Injuries are going to play a massive role in this line throughout the day. Milwaukee already doesn’t have Malcolm Brogdon, Pau Gasol, and Nikola Mirotic, and the Bucks might not have potential league MVP Giannis Antetokuonmpo either. He is a game-time decision with an ankle injury.

Meanwhile, Atlanta doesn’t have DeWayne Dedmon, Omari Spellman, and Miles Plumlee. Kent Bazemore, Alex Poythress, and Taurean Waller-Prince are all game time decisions.

Dallas Mavericks at Oklahoma City Thunder (OKC -12, O/U 222)

The Thunder are not finishing strong to end the season. Oklahoma City would be the No. 8 seed if the season were to end today, and that would likely mean a date with Golden State in the first round of the playoffs. That’s something Oklahoma City desperately wants to avoid, so Paul George and Russell Westbrook will want to make sure they beat a Dallas team that is 7-31 on the road.

Los Angeles Lakers at New Orleans Pelicans (NO -2.5, O/U 235.5)

LeBron James has been officially shut down for the last six games of the Lakers’ season. With a losing record sealed, the Lakers have decided to give their superstar the last 10 days off, and they won’t be favored again with their final five games coming against Oklahoma City, Golden State, the Clippers, Utah, and Portland.

The interesting subplot here revolves around Anthony Davis. James and the Lakers attempted to acquire him at the trade deadline, but the move blew up in their faces. It’s no secret that Davis won’t be in the Big East much longer, and the interplay between him and members of the Lakers will be magnified.

Sacramento Kings at San Antonio Spurs (SAS -9.5, O/U 227)

The Spurs are one of the best home teams in the NBA. San Antonio is back in the playoffs with a winning record for an NBA record-tying 22nd straight season, and its performance at home has been a big part of why they are successful. Their 30-8 home record is the second-best in the NBA this season, and they will be facing a disheartened Sacramento team that was officially eliminated from playoff contention after a loss at Houston yesterday.

Washington Wizards at Denver Nuggets (DEN -11.5, O/U 225)

Denver has the best home record in the league. The Nuggets are 31-6 at home, and they are gunning for the top spot in the Western Conference. They are currently tied with Golden State, and they are taking on a Washington team that is 9-30 away from DC this year.

Charlotte Hornets at Golden State Warriors (GS -12, O/U 229.5)

The Warriors have had a trying season. They will fall well short of their season win total, and they have one of the worst ATS records in the league at 31-43-1 ATS. They have lost a number of games outright as a double-digit favorite.

Memphis Grizzlies at Los Angeles Clippers (LAC -8, O/U Check Back Later)

Doc Rivers and the Clippers are still one of the hottest teams in the league. They have now won eight of their last ten, and this is one of Rivers’ best coaching jobs yet.
