Heat at Lakers NBA Betting

LeBron James will certainly be feeling a little something when his Los Angeles Lakers take on the Miami Heat this week. James won his first two NBA titles as part of one of the league’s first modern-day super teams in Miami, and he led the Los Angeles Lakers to the title over the Heat during the shortened 2019-20 season. He is not expected to be in the lineup for this game though, as he is reportedly dealing with an abdominal injury.

picked it, but right now it doesn’t seem too appealing, as the Pelicans have one of the worst records in the NBA, while the Warriors have one of the best records. New Orleans is still without Zion Williamson and they have struggled mightily without him. Let’s look at the game and NBA picks.

Odds Analysis

The Miami Heat could be favored by the NBA betting odds despite being 3,000 miles away from home on Wednesday night. Miami is currently 7-2 after its win over Utah on Saturday, and the Heat will have a night off after playing the Denver Nuggets in the Mile High City on Monday night. Meanwhile, the Los Angeles Lakers have not lived up to the preseason hype. The Lakers are 5-5 and just 2-8 ATS through their first 10 games.

Miami Heat

Jimmy Butler has been great for the Heat through the first few weeks of the season. He currently leads the team with 24.7 PPG, and his 28.74 PER is one of the highest totals in the NBA. Butler is stuffing the stat sheet in the manner we are used to seeing, averaging 6.1 RPG, 5.2 APG, and 2.3 SPG. The only thing he hasn’t done well is shoot the three, as he is making just 23.1% of his triples.

Big man Bam Adebayo is thriving once again too. Adebayo is averaging a double-double with 19.4 PPG and 12.0 RPG. He is making 51.9% of his field goals, and he is a superb free throw shooter for a big man. Adebayo is a real defensive presence too.

The guard play has been hit or miss for the Heat. Duncan Robinson is off to a horrible start, making less than 35% of his field goals while posting a 1.3 assist to turnover ratio. Kyle Lowry has been a solid facilitator but an average shooter in this offense, while Tyler Herro has shaken off a disappointing 2020-21 campaign to knock down 42.6% of his treys.

Los Angeles Lakers

LeBron James has not played since last Tuesday’s two-point win over Houston. He is expected to miss this game too, and the Lakers aren’t very good without him. They have lost to Oklahoma City and Portland in their last two games.
Power forward Anthony Davis is questionable to play with a finger injury. That led to him playing just seven minutes against Portland on Saturday night. He is averaging 23.1 PPG and 11.0 RPG this season, so he needs to play with James out for the Lakers to like their chances in this game.

The Lakers rolled the dice by acquiring Russell Westbrook this offseason. Westbrook is putting up a lot of stats, averaging 19.0 PPG, 8.5 RPG, and 7.9 APG, but he hasn’t been very efficient. He is turning the ball over five times a game, and his three-point shooting continues to be subpar. He is making just 26.8% of his threes, and he is a 62.8% free throw shooter this year too.

Lakers vs. Heat Picks

Miami is the team to back in this nationally televised game on Wednesday night. The Heat are healthy and playing well, while the Lakers are banged up and in disarray. The status of Davis will have an impact on the betting odds for this game, but Miami is the play regardless given what we have seen from Butler, Herro, and Adebayo.
