NCAA Basketball March 1 Parlay Picks

Back-to-back 1-2 ATS showings with my Wednesday night parlay picks has me in a foul mood. End of season variance always hits hard come March, and the basketball gods always seem to unleash upon me when attempting to build the bankroll for “The Madness.” Providence never stood a chance in the Gampel Pavilion where UConn evened up the season rivalry with relative ease. Wake Forest went for 46 in the first half against NC State but only managed 28 over the final 20 to seal its at-large fate to the Dance. If not for Marcus Shaver Jr. missing a ton of freebies and UNM’s Donovan Dent not draining a 3-ball at the buzzer, we would’ve taken the collar. Here’s to putting an end to the two-week losing streak and getting back in the black with a trio of investments to target for your Wednesday night parlay cards!

Notre Dame Fighting Irish

It’s Senior Night in South Bend as well as Mike Brey’s final home game as head coach of the program. Emotions will run high in the Purcell Pavilion on Hump Day night! That paired with the Panthers having absolutely nothing to play for leads me to believe the Golden Domers will be live. For all intents and purposes, it’s been a season to forget for Nate Laszewski and his mates who’ve struggled mightily to attain an ugly 10-19 record that’s seen them manage a grand total of two wins through 18 played ACC matchups.

However, the Irish have shown some bite recently in coming a single point away from covering each of their last four @Duke, @Virginia, UNC, and @Wake Forest. The kids look to be determined to play out the string with a max effort before calling the season quits. As for PITT, the current ACC leaders have a bragging rights matchup on deck against Miami. Jeff Capel’s main goal should be to come out of this one unscathed so as to have all weapons on deck for Saturday’s throw down. Gimme the points!

UConn Huskies

I’m jumping back on UConn’s bandwagon against DePaul even though we faded Adama Sonogo and his mates last Wednesday night against Providence. Dan Hurley’s kids had their way with the Blue Demons in the first go-round coming out with a 90-76 triumph as 11-point road chalk at the end of January. UConn was able to get to the charity stripe 34 times and scored at will in the paint. It ended up shooting 51 percent from the field which includes a sickening 4 of 16 showing from beyond the arc. On top of that, they dominated the battle of the boards 36-22.

This will be a solid test for the nation’s No. 23 ranked defense per KenPom. Though the Blue Demons ultimately failed to cover, it had more to do with the Huskies offense doing simply as it pleased. DePaul shot 45 percent from the field and drained 9 of 20 long range shots. Had it not shot 61 percent from the free throw line, it might’ve been a different story. But did that have to do with the Huskies putting 46 on the board in the first half and just coasting over the final 20? I think so; look for Jordan Hawkins and Co. to set the tone early and take another double-digit lead into the break.

TCU Horned Frogs

TCU was my kryptonite last week. It pained me since I seriously believe Jamie Dixon’s kids got a shot to make a very deep run in the NCAA Tournament. I have a nice futures odds ticket already in my pocket that states as such. I backed them against Kansas and faded them at Texas Tech – though I expected them to be favored by a bucket in Lubbock – woe is me! I thought the team would be ready to go against the Jayhawks, but I was proved wrong with Mike Miles Jr. and Eddie Lampkin looking like shells of their former self. So I backed Texas Tech and No. 1 goes off for a game-high 24 points after stinking the joint up against KU.

When it comes to heart between Texas and Texas Christian, the Horny Toads have bucket loads. I can’t and won’t say the same for the squad from Austin. How they let Baylor smear them like that this past weekend with the Big 12 regular season title on the line was beyond me. This will undoubtedly be a war at both ends of the court, but in the end look for TCU’s home court advantage and desire to even the series up with their hated rival propel them to the win and cover.
