College Basketball Odds – Seton Hall Pirates at Creighton Bluejays Game Preview

College Basketball Odds – Seton Hall Pirates at Creighton Bluejays

With the Seton Hall Pirates failing to lock up the Big East regular season title at home on Wednesday night against Villanova, this Saturday afternoon tilt in Omaha is now enormous! The Creighton Bluejays will have home court advantage in an attempt to tally their first ever Big East regular season title at online sportsbooks. The closest they ever came was runner-up back in 2014. You have to go all the way back to the 1992-93 season to find the last time the Pirates turned the trick. With that, the city of Omaha will be the place to be as Myles Powell leads his team into battle against Ty-Shon Alexander and company with the regular season title on the line. That’s something the Bluejays never could’ve imagined being possible after spitting the bit at St. John’s to open up the new month – you got to love the Madness of March!

This Big East skirmish takes place on Saturday, March 7, 2020. Tip-off will be at 2:30 p.m. ET from the CHI Health Center in Omaha, NE. The game will be broadcast live on FOX.

Odds Analysis

Is it possible the Pirates shot their wad too early? Kevin Willard’s troops looked nothing short of impenetrable early on when it rattled off 10 straight wins to take a commanding lead atop the Big East standings. It covered eight of those matchups against the closing college basketball odds; times were good for The Hall backers. Then everything seemed to take a turn for the worse when it played in an early tip-off against Xavier to open up the month of February. Though it bounced back with solid wins and covers against Georgetown and Villanova, it followed those wins up with back-to-back losses to Creighton at home and Providence on the road. The most recent loss at home to Nova lets it be known this team is either lying in the weeds waiting to strike when it matters most, or simply just isn’t as good as the overall SU and ATS records indicate.

It was so Creighton to spit the bit like they did on Sunday night losing at St. John’s by 20 points as 5.5-point favorites. With that, their shot at earning a share of the Big East title looked like it all but vanished. But thanks to the Wildcats going into the Prudential Center and handing the Pirates a 79-77 defeat as 3.5-point underdogs, the Bluejays are back in the running. In winning and covering against the Georgetown Hoyas on Wednesday night, Creighton will be installed favorites to win a share of the Big East title regardless of the fact that it would’ve swept Seton Hall if it wins this rematch on Saturday afternoon. The chances of that occurring are excellent considering Greg McDermott’s kids have won all but one of their 17 games played as hosts and went on to cover the closing CBB odds in 10 of those matchups. They’ll entertain the Pirates having covered five straight at home and 10 of their last 12 overall.

Recent Meeting

Seton Hall never once found itself in a position to cover the 5.5-point spread when these teams collided in the Prudential Center back on February 12. Creighton was simply too hot from the field in knocking down 29-of-63 shots and it also had no issues competing with Romaro Gill and company on the glass in playing even in the rebounding battle (37-37). The Bluejays went on to drain 46 percent of their 63 total shots taken from the field with Alexander, Zegarowski, Mahoney and Jefferson each going off for 18-points apiece; the latter just missed a double-double by a single carom. Creighton even got to the free throw line more. Myles Powell was nowhere to be found evidenced by his 12 overall points on a rotten 3-of-16 shooting from the field. He was a no-show last time out versus Nova as well in tallying 14 points on 5-of-18 shooting. Seton Hall will lose this game if their prime time player fails to make an appearance!

Prediction

I had my pulse on the Pirates earlier in the season and made a mint backing and fading them in the correct spots. Lately, I’ve done nothing but lose money when getting involved. I backed them last time out at home against Villanova; loser. I faded them at Marquette the game before that; loser. With that, you might want to take a deaf ear to what I have to say or fade it altogether. Regardless, I’ll be backing The Hall in the rematch and fully expect them to win the regular season Big East title outright by going into Omaha and handing them a defeat. Much like the Villanova Wildcats did at the beginning of January after battling back from a halftime deficit to dominate the second half and secure the outright win and cover as short underdogs. Should the Pirates find themselves trailing at the half, run to your bookmaker and back the Pirates – Powell isn’t gonna let his teammates go out like that!

College Basketball Pick: Seton Hall 90, Creighton 87
