College Basketball Odds – Ohio State at North Carolina Game Preview

It is a matchup of Top 10 teams on Wednesday night on ESPN, as Ohio State visits North Carolina in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge. The Buckeyes come into this game at 7-1 and they have been an excellent team to bet on so far this season, as they are 6-1 ATS. The Tar Heels are 6-1, but they have been a poor team for bettors so far this season, as they are just 2-5 ATS. Let’s take a look at this high profile matchup and college basketball picks.

Don't miss the hardwood action from the Dean Smith Center at 9:30 p.m. ET on Wednesday, December 6, 2019. Catch every moment of the game live on ESPN.

Buckeyes Continue to Roll

Ohio State is coming off a 90-57 win over Morgan State on Friday night. The game was never in doubt, as the Buckeyes led 45-18 at the half. Andre Wesson had 19 points to lead the Buckeyes in the win. His brother, Kaleb, scored 13 points and had eight rebounds, while CJ Walker had 10 points and three assists. It should be noted that all seven of Ohio State’s games have been at home, so this game on Wednesday will be their first road test of the season.
Ohio State is averaging 78.3 points per game and giving up just 52.7 points per contest. They have gone under in five of their seven games this season.

Tar Heels Bounce Back from First Loss

North Carolina suffered their first loss of the season in the Bahamas, as they were beaten by Michigan last week, but the Tar Heels bounced back to defeat Oregon in the third-place game by a score of 78-74. Head coach Roy Williams said that the game was a good test for his team. "It was probably a double good feeling because we had a 10-point lead and we got it there with our toughness and our attention to detail," Williams said to the media, "Then all of a sudden it gets to be a one-possession game, and then I liked our toughness after that again." Armando Bacot had 23 points and 12 rebounds, while Cole Anthony had 19 points in the win. Anthony leads the Tar Heels, averaging just over 20 points per game.

North Carolina is averaging about 75 points per game, while giving up about 66 points per contest. They have not been a good team to bet on against the spread, but they have been an excellent team to bet under the total, with six of their seven games going under.

There is little doubt that North Carolina is going to be favored at home in this game. The question is how good is Ohio State? The Buckeyes have a couple of good wins against Cincinnati and Villanova, but it is so early in the season we don’t really know if either of those teams is going to be a top team. What we do know is that the Buckeyes have been covering the spread on a regular basis. We need to keep in mind, however, that this will be their first road game of the season. I lean to the Buckeyes plus the points, but I am leery simply because this is their first road test. I think the better play is the total. Ohio State is playing excellent defense this season and North Carolina has also been solid on defense. I will take this game on Wednesday night under the total.

College Basketball Pick: North Carolina 68, Ohio State 65
