2022 FIFA World Cup Group C Betting
Argentina is the big favorite in Group C, and this nation is looking to win its third World Cup. Lionel Messi finally led his country to international glory with the 2021 Copa America, putting an end to almost two decades of nightmares on the international stage. This will almost certainly be his last opportunity to lead Argentina in the World Cup though as the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner will turn 35 in June.
The 2022 World Cup in Qatar will begin on Monday, November 21 and run through the final on Sunday, December 18. All the action can be seen on FOX or FS1.
World Cup Group C Betting Odds and Preview
The defending Copa America champions were strong throughout World Cup qualifying. Argentina didn’t lose a match, finishing with an 11-6-0 record to cruise to second place behind Brazil in COMNEBOL. The two-time World Cup champions have finished runner-up twice, but there has been a lot of heartbreak since Diego Maradona hung up his cleats.
They have only made it further than the quarterfinals once, and their back line was carved up by Kylian Mbappe and France in the Round of 16 in Russia.
Any team with Lionel Messi is a threat to win the World Cup though. Messi is at the tail end of his career, but he is still arguably the best distributor in the game. A lot will rest on Messi and Angel Di Maria with Sergio Aguero announcing his retirement due to a heart condition.
Poland has arguably the best striker in the world on the roster. Robert Lewandowski has notched 75 goals with the national team, and he is looking to chase down Gerd Muller as the leading goal scorer in Bundesliga history. Poland made it to the quarterfinals of the 2016 European Championships, but they have struggled to get out of the Group Stage as opponents have focused their efforts on stopping Lewandowski. If Adam Buksa or Krzysztof Piatek can become a solid second striker, this team is dangerous.
The easiest team to predict at the World Cup over the last three decades is Mexico. El Tri have made it to the World Cup seven straight times, and they have been eliminated in the Round of 16 every time. They were unceremoniously knocked out by Brazil in 2018 and allowed two goals after the 87th minute to the Netherlands in 2014 to be sent home. Mexico was not too strong during qualifying, so this team might finally do something different at the 2022 World Cup, but not in the direction the fans want.
Saudi Arabia made it to the knockout rounds of the 1994 World Cup, but the Green Falcons have only won one of their 12 Group Stage games since that point. They will be underdogs again this time and were trounced 5-0 by Russia in the first game of the 2018 World Cup. Unlike virtually every other team at the World Cup, the entire national team plays domestic football in their home nation.
