Churchill Downs in Louisville, Kentucky is the site for the 2018 Breeders’ Cup on Friday, November 2 and Saturday, November 3. It is the best time of the year for horse racing, with five Breeders’ Cup races on Friday and nine on Saturday. The marquee race among the 14 is the $6 million dollar Breeders’ Cup Classic on Saturday, November 3 on NBC. Accelerate is the current favorite to win the Classic at odds of 9-2. The field for the Breeders’ Cup Classic will not be known for a while, but some of the main contenders have started to emerge. Accelerate is the current favorite after a dominating win in the Pacific Classic. Catholic Boy is the second choice in the betting after winning the Travers Stakes. Diversify and Yoshida are next at odds of 10-1. Diversify won the Whitney Handicap, while Yoshida was very impressive in winning the Woodward Stakes. It is interesting to note that both Catholic Boy and Yoshida have switched from racing on the turf to racing on the dirt and have won.
The odds on West Coast are listed at 12-1. The horse last ran in the Dubai World Cup and may not race again until the Classic. The odds on this horse could go anywhere, as if he looks good in training he might go off at odds around 5-1, but it would not be surprising if he was listed at 20-1 if his workouts don’t look good.
The next big prep race that will shake up the Breeders’ Cup Classic odds is the Jockey Club Gold Cup at Saratoga on September 29. That race could have Diversify, Thunder Snow and Gronkowski in it.
Sentient Jet Breeders’ Cup Juvenile
Another race that has seen odds posted is the Sentient Jet Breeders’ Cup Juvenile, which is the feature race on Friday, November 2. Instagrand has been listed as the 7-2 favorite. The horse is followed by Roadster at odds of 6-1. Instagrand is trained by Jerry Hollendorfer and the horse is coming off a win in the Best Pal Stakes at Del Mar. Roadster is trained by Hall of Famer Bob Baffert and is coming off the Del Mar Futurity where he was favored.
Breeders’ Cup Distaff
Odds for the Distaff are also on the board with Monomy Girl a slight 7-2 favorite over Abel Tasman who is listed at odds of 4-2. This race looks to be wide open, as Wonder Gadot is 5-1; Elate is listed at 6-1, while Eskimo Kisses is 8-1.
