Wednesday’s College Basketball Best Bets

Some of the best teams in the country will be in action on Wednesday night, but none of them are expected to receive too much of a test. Only one of the five ranked teams is less than a double-digit favorite, as these ranked teams are all playing lower-tier teams in their conference. Despite that, we know one of the teams is likely to receive a real test tonight, and the question is who will fall?

South Carolina Gamecocks at Tennessee Volunteers
Date and Time
: Wednesday, February 13, 2019, 6:30 p.m. ET
Location: Thompson-Boling Arena, Knoxville, Tennessee
CBB Betting Line: Tennessee -15.5, O/U 154

Tennessee is the No. 1 team in the country. The Volunteers are on an 18-game winning streak, and they have been incredible at home with a sterling 14-0 record. Their last five wins have all come by double digits, and they hammered South Carolina by 22 points when these teams met two weeks ago.

Grant Williams’ decision to return to Knoxville for one more year has made Tennessee tough to beat. Williams is a lock to be named first-team all-conference with his play, and he is averaging nearly 20 PPG this year. He is hitting more than 58 percent of his field goals, and he is a double-double threat every night.

There is reason to think South Carolina gets the cover though. The Volunteers will be traveling to Kentucky on Saturday, and they have to be looking forward to that. As impressive as Tennessee has been, the Vols haven’t faced either Kentucky or LSU, and those are the only two teams that can keep them from winning the regular season SEC title.

Providence Friars at Villanova Wildcats
Date and Time
: Wednesday, February 13, 2019, 6:30 p.m. ET
Location: Finneran Pavilion, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
CBB Betting Line: Villanova -11, O/U 135.5

Villanova’s 11-game winning streak came to an end over the weekend. The Wildcats weren’t able to get past Marquette, losing by a single point, and they can’t afford another loss if they want to stay in front of Providence in the Big East.

Their offense has really struggled over the last week. Nova could only manage 66 points against Creighton and 65 points against Marquette, and the Wildcats are likely to struggle against Providence too. The Friars have a top 40 defense according to Ken Pomeroy, and they held Nova to just 65 points in early January.

Nova is on upset alert here. Providence hasn’t been great on offense, but Nova’s defense has been lacking with so many new faces this season. The Friars will at least keep it close.

Wake Forest Demon Deacons at Florida State Seminoles
Date and Time
: Wednesday, February 13, 2019, 7 p.m. ET
Location: Donald L. Tucker Center, Tallahassee, Florida
CBB Betting Line: Florida State -18, O/U 140.5

The Demon Deacons have been really bad this year. They have no shot of going to a postseason tournament, and they have won just two conference games. Wake Forest managed to score just 37 points in their last road game, and they have been awful away from home. Their average ACC road loss has been 18 points.
Florida State is a team known for its letdowns. The Seminoles lost on the road to both Pittsburgh and Boston College already this year, and it’s rare for them to cover a spread like this. Leonard Hamilton isn’t known for his ability to coach offense, so while FSU will get the win, they won’t cover.

Texas Tech Red Raiders at Oklahoma State Cowboys
Date and Time:
Wednesday, February 13, 2019, 9 p.m. ET
Location: Gallagher-Iba Arena, Stillwater, Oklahoma
CBB Betting Line: Texas Tech -7, O/U 127

I don’t get this line. Texas Tech has the best defense in the country according to Ken Pomeroy, and Oklahoma State is incredibly thin. The Cowboys were calling for open tryouts among the student body just last month to address their lack of depth, and they haven’t won a conference game since January 12. They have been playing teams tough, but at 9-14, they have to be ready to pack it in.
