Tuesday’s College Basketball Best Bets

Who says there is a lull in the sports betting season now that the NFL season is over? College basketball is here to pick up the slack in the run-up to March Madness, and there will be nine ranked teams in action this Tuesday night. While there are no games between ranked teams, plenty of ranked teams are on upset alert heading into tonight. Florida State and Kansas are both underdogs on the road against tough conference opponents, and other teams might end up falling this week too.

Florida State Seminoles at Syracuse Orange
Date and Time
: Tuesday, February 5, 2019, 8 p.m. ET
Location: Carrier Dome, Syracuse, New York
CBB Betting Line: Syracuse -2.5, O/U 137

The Syracuse Orange have shaken off a slow start to the season. Syracuse lost four times in non-conference play, falling to non-descript teams like Connecticut and Old Dominion, and it looked like Jim Boeheim’s boys would have a hard time making it to March Madness.

However, a stunning win over Duke in Durham has propelled them forward in ACC play, and the Orange are now 7-2 in conference action. Making it to the NCAA Tournament seems like an afterthought at this point considering their play, and Syracuse can put another feather in its cap with a win over Florida State this Tuesday.

Florida State is a team that has been moving in the opposite direction. The Seminoles were extremely impressive in non-conference play, but they have had their share of woes in ACC action. FSU lost four of five ACC tilts at one point before recovering to move to 4-4 in conference play.

The Seminoles are going to have a tough time against the Orange here. Syracuse’s 2-3 zone is going to hurt an offense that has had some troubles in recent weeks and that should lead to an Orange win. The best bet may be the under considering these two defenses though.

Saint John’s Red Storm at Marquette Golden Eagles
Date and Time
: Tuesday, February 5, 2019, 8 p.m. ET
Location: Fiserv Forum, Milwaukee, Wisconsin
CBB Betting Line: Marquette -6.5, O/U 154

Marquette has seized its chance to claim the Big East after national champion Villanova lost most of its production this offseason. The Golden Eagles have lost just three times all year and have big wins over Kansas State, Louisville, Wisconsin, and Buffalo in non-conference play. Marquette lost its first conference game against St. John’s on New Year’s Day, but since then the Golden Eagles have run off eight straight wins.

The Red Storm have not had the same success against the Big East, but they have that win over Marquette to look back on. St. John’s was on fire from three in that game, hitting 45.8 percent of its treys in the rout, and their guards could have similar success here. The Golden Eagles don’t have a great perimeter defense, and the Red Storm could have a lot of success with their four-guard offense.

North Carolina State Wolfpack at North Carolina Tar Heels
Date and Time
: Tuesday, February 5, 2019, 8 p.m. ET
Location: Dean Smith Court, Chapel Hill, North Carolina
CBB Betting Line: North Carolina -11, O/U 163

North Carolina State has become something of a punchline after Saturday’s embarrassing loss to Virginia Tech. The Wolfpack managed to score just 24 points in the defeat, a program-low in the shot clock era, shooting just 16.7 percent from the floor and sinking a scant 7.1 percent of their threes. They have now lost three of their last four, and they are considerable underdogs going into tonight’s game with North Carolina.

The Tar Heels knocked off the Wolfpack by eight points in Raleigh four weeks ago, and UNC crushed NC State on the boards. That led to a North Carolina win despite 23 turnovers from the Tar Heels, so they could really dominate tonight’s affair if they are more careful with the ball.

Kansas Jayhawks at Kansas State Wildcats
Date and Time: Tuesday, February 5, 2019, 9 p.m. ET
Location: Bramlage Coliseum, Manhattan, Kansas
CBB Betting Line: Kansas State -2, O/U 130

Kansas is reeling and might not win at least a share of the Big 12 conference title for the first time in seemingly forever. The Jayhawks have lost three of their last four, and they are underdogs coming into tonight’s game with Kansas State.

A Kansas State win on Tuesday night would send Kansas reeling. The Wildcats are 6-2 in Big 12 play, and that would put them 1.5 games up on their in-state rivals. Kansas is just 1-5 away from Allen Fieldhouse, so they are in some real trouble here.
