St Petersburg Open Tennis Betting OddsTennis betting: There aren't many of the ATP World Tour 250 Series events which have cash prizes of over $1,000,000, but the St. Petersburg Open is one of them. Many of the top players will likely eschew this event this year with the Davis Cup and the Olympics going on just before it, but the financial commitment to the prize pool might make it an alluring option.

The play at the St. Petersburg Open runs concurrently with the Moselle Open in France, and that basically takes all of the French players out of the equation for entry into this event. The tournament runs from Monday, September 19 through Sunday, September 25 at Sibur Arena in St. Petersburg. The St. Petersburg Open is a hard court event, and the matches are all decided in best-of-three sets format.

Though none of the "big five" players in men's tennis have come to St. Petersburg recently, this field did draw a nice crowd last year, including Tomas Berdych, Dominic Thiem and the winner of the event, Milos Raonic. All three men are now ranked in the Top 15 in the world, and all were in the Top 20 last year at this time.

A total of 28 men will enter the St. Petersburg Open, but many won't ultimately be ranked. The ultimate winners of this event are often all over the place. Raonic was a name winner last year, but the list of winners before that were interesting, to say the least. Ernests Gulbis, Martin Klizan, Marin Cilic, Mikhail Kukushkin and Sergiy Stakhovsky were all winners of the St. Petersburg Open since 2013, and none of these men have really ever played a major role in big ATP Tournaments.

Andy Murray did win the St. Petersburg Open in 2007 and 2008 while he was still on the verge of being one of the top tennis players in the world, while Marat Safin, arguably the most notable Russian men's tennis player in the last two decades, won the event in 2000 and 2001.
