Peru World Cup Betting OddsFIFA World Cup Betting: For the first time since 1982, Peru is back at the World Cup. South America was the toughest region to qualify from this year with good teams like Chile and Ecuador being left at home due to how strong the region turned out to be. Peru needed every point it could get in this group and scratched and clawed its way to fifth place and a date with New Zealand in the inter-confederation playoff.

Once Peru was at that point, it was all academic. Los Incas cruised to an aggregate victory against an outmatched Kiwi side and sent the nation into euphoria. They are playing with house money at this point, and that makes them a very dangerous team.

Once every four years, the world's most popular game has its biggest tournament. The World Cup is as big as it gets all over the world, especially for the 32 countries who have earned the right to partake in this tournament. We think of the World Cup as a four-week tournament in June and July every few years, but this is actually a tournament where every FIFA team in the world has a chance to make it to the big stage.

The 2018 World Cup in Russia will begin on Thursday, June 14 and run through the final on Sunday, July 15. All of the action can be seen on FOX, FOX Sports 1 and FOX Sports 2.

History at the World Cup

Peru has made it to the World Cup four times before this, and they have had some interesting results here. They were able to make it to the Quarterfinals after beating Bulgaria and Morocco in the Group Stage at the 1970 World Cup, but Peru ran into eventual champion Brazil and lost.

In 1978, Peru made it out of the Group Stage too. They finished 2-0-1 to advance to the second round of the World Cup, but they were then outscored by a combined 10 goals in matches against Brazil, Poland, and Argentina.

Their other two appearances didn’t amount to much, so Peru is hoping to advance for the third time in five tries.

Player to Watch

Paulo Guerrero is looking to make the most of his second chance. Guerrero has been the country’s top forward for over a decade and was elated to be heading to the World Cup for the first time in his career. However, in early December, it was announced that he had tested positive for PEDs, and that he would be banned from international football for one year.

Guerrero immediately appealed the decision, and surprisingly, FIFA showed clemency. The organization reduced his ban to six months, making him eligible for the World Cup.

That’s good news for Guerrero. However, it will be interesting to see how he fits back in with the national team. He is not able to play until the end of May, and that could create chemistry issues. Guerrero is extremely talented and will certainly see the field.
