On April 29, 2017 Nietes scored a unanimous decision win over Komgrich Nantapech at the Cebu City Waterfront Hotel and Casino, Barangay Lahug, Cebu City. The 12 round bout was for the vacant International Boxing Federation World Flyweight title.
