With the win Kovalev took the World Boxing Organization world light heavyweight championship. The fight took place at The Ford Center at The Star, Frisco, Texas. The win was sweet revenge for Kovalev as Eleider Alvarez defeated him in his previous fight.

On August 4, 2018 Kovalev faced Alvarez at the Mark G Estess Arena, The Hard Rock Hotel & Casino, Atlantic City, New Jersey in a unification bout. At stake was the International Boxing Association, World Boxing Organization, and World Boxing Organization world light heavyweight championships. Alvarez scored a seventh-round knockout win in the scheduled 12 round fight.

On March 3, 2018 Kovalev met Igor Mikhalkin at Madison Square Garden, New York for the World Boxing Organization world light heavyweight title. Kovalev was the winner in a seventh-round technical knockout in a scheduled 12 round bout.

Anthony Yarde is 28 years old and ranked 12th in the world. Yarde is a native of the United Kingdom and resides there in Ilford. He stands at six feet tall and fights from an orthodox stance. Much like Kovalev, Yarde is celebrated for his superior punching power.

Yarde last stepped into the ring on March 8, 2019 when he faced Travis Reeves at Royal Albert Hall, Kensington. Yarde scored a fifth-round technical knockout win in the scheduled 10 round bout.
