2020 The Match III: Champions for Change at a Glance
Course: Stone Canyon Golf Club, Tucson, Arizona
Course Length: 7,317 yards
Stone Canyon is one of the courses that Mickelson owns and it is a course that he really likes. He said to the media that it is “a place that I’m extremely proud of and excited to show how special it is.” If the match is not decided on 18 holes then the players will go to a 19th hole that is a par-3 that measures just 107 yards.
The Match III: Champions for Change is kind of a continuation in some respects of The Match concept where it was Tiger Woods against Phil Mickelson. The first match between Tiger and Phil went to Mickelson in 2018, while Tiger got revenge in the rematch earlier in 2020.
The format will be a modified alternate shot play. All four players will hit tee shots and the team chooses the ball they want to play. Players will alternate hitting shots, so it could be that Barkley hits the tee shot and Mickelson plays the second shot. Players will be wearing mics for this event and cameras will be in the golf carts and on the course.
“I’m excited to return for the third edition of Capital One’s The Match and get out on the course with these three legendary athletes,” said Mickelson to the media, “While we may need a handicap for Chuck, I’m looking forward to playing with Peyton and Stephen and to help raise money for another important cause. It’s also going to give fans and viewers an up-close look at Stone Canyon Golf Club, a place that I’m extremely proud of and excited to show how special it is.”
