2019 Hero World Challenge Betting

Hero World Challenge Betting

An unofficial event on the PGA Tour schedule is the Hero World Challenge that takes place in late November or early December. The event is hosted by Tiger Woods and the Tiger Woods Foundation with a limited field of golfers competing for the title. The tournament does not award any FedExCup points but it is still listed on the PGA Tour schedule. The event does feature a strong field of 18 players, many of which are ranked in the Top 10 in the latest World Golf Rankings.

Catch all of the action at the Hero World Challenge from Wednesday, December 4 through Saturday, December 7.

2019 Hero World Challenge At a Glance

Course: Albany, New Providence, Bahamas

Par: 72

Course Length: 7,400 yards

Defending Champion: Jon Rahm

Tournament Record: -26 (Jordan Spieth, 2014)

The 2019 event will feature another great field, as 16 of the 18 players have already been announced. Joining Tiger Woods will be Dustin Johnson, Justin Rose, Justin Thomas, defending champion Jon Rahm, Patrick Cantlay, Xander Schauffele, Bryson DeChambeau, Tony Finau, Webb Simpson, Patrick Reed, Gary Woodland, Rickie Fowler, Matt Kuchar, Bubba Wtson and Kevin Kisner.

This event has a field of just 18 players, as invites go out to the last four major winners and the top 11 players from the latest World Golf Rankings. The defending champion also gets an invite and there are also at least two sponsor exemptions. The field is always strong, although not all of the players who get invites participate, as this event takes place in December when many of the world’s top players are taking time off to prepare for the new season in January. The event is held at Albany on the island of New Providence in The Bahamas on a course designed by Ernie Els.

2004 Tiger Woods -16
2003 Davis Love III -11
2002 Padraig Harrington -20
2001 Tiger Woods -15
2000 Davis Love III -22

Many of the world’s top players compete at the Hero World Challenge so it is no surprise to see marquee names on the list of winners. Tiger hosts this event and his name is the most frequent on the list but he has not played well in many years, as you have to go back to 2011 for the last time he won this tournament.

Most Career Wins at Hero World Challenge

5 Tiger Woods 2001, 2004, 2006, 2007, 2011
2 Graeme McDowell 2010, 2012
2 Davis Love III 2000, 2003

It is no surprise that Woods has dominated this event considering he is the tournament host. It seems unlikely based on his current health that he will ever be able to win this event again, but his five wins will likely stand the test of time. McDowell and Love have each won this event twice but both players are well past their prime and unlikely to win this event in the future.

Best Winning Tournament Scores at Hero World Challenge

-26 Jordan Spieth 2014
-25 Bubba Watson 2015
-22 Tiger Woods 2007
-22 Davis Love III 2000
-20 Jon Rahm 2018
-20 Padraig Harrington 2002

The winning scores in recent years have been excellent in this event. Spieth set the record in 2014 by shooting 26-under par, as he won by a ridiculous margin of 10 shots.  The winning score of 18-under par by Matsuyama in 2016 was nowhere near the 26-under shot by Spieth but it should be noted that in 2015 it was Bubba Watson just one off the record shot by Spieth, as Watson shot 25-under par.
