Toronto Defiant Esports Betting Online
The Toronto Defiant are one of the eight expansion franchises that joined the Overwatch League for the league’s second season in 2019. They announced that they were joining the league on September 7, and they took the name Defiant on October 24. The Defiant joined at the same time as the Vancouver Titans, and these two teams are out to show that Canada has what it takes to be competitive in the Overwatch League.
Toronto Defiant Owners
This franchise is co-owned by Esports organization Splyce and video game entertainment company OverActive Media. The two companies have deep ties with OverActive already owning shares of Splyce, and there should be no concerns about them being on different pages. Splyce has not been around as long as other Esports organizations, but they field a number of teams competing in a variety of Esports.
Splyce has one of the top League of Legends teams in Europe, and they have been one of the best in Call of Duty and Halo too. The organization has also had some success in CS:GO, Hearthstone, and Rocket League over the last few years.
Toronto Defiant Roster
Not long after the Defiant announced they had been awarded a franchise, they announced a head coach. Toronto made a big splash when they announced that they had signed former London Spitfire head coach Bishop to be their man in charge.
Like many other teams before them, Toronto made the decision to stack their roster with Korean players. Bishop added Bubbly and Don to be his assistant coaches in later October, and the Defiant signed most of their roster over the next week. The founder of Overwatch League tracking website Winston’s Lab was signed on to be the team’s primary scout, and they mostly used his analytics in constructing the team.
Envy was signed to be the team’s captain. He is a flex tank known for his D.Va play, and he played on the Los Angeles Valiant for the first three months of last season before leaving to go back to Korea to play for Meta Bellum.
The Defiant signed another quality veteran with the addition of Neko. Neko was one of the top players on the Boston Uprising last year, and his play on Zenyatta was fantastic. The character figures to have a continued role in the meta once more in 2019, so having a quality Zenyatta main will come in handy. However, Neko will be suspended for the first three games of the season after selling one of his accounts and obstructing the investigation.
Asher is the other familiar face that was in the Overwatch League in 2018. He is a DPS player known for his play on Tracer, and he will likely be a Tracer main throughout his time with the Defiant.
The other five players on the roster are all new to the Overwatch League. Ivy is the player that has received the most buzz. He is rumored to be one of the top new flex DPS players, and he has been incredibly versatile. Two of his teammates from South Korean team O2 Ardeont will be joining him too, and that will help with continuity. Yakpung is a tank that is considered to be one of the top up and coming Winston players around, while Stellar will challenge Asher for time on Tracer.
Rounding out the line-up are two supports to pair with Neko. Roky was known for his play on Lucio and Mercy during his time in Korea, while Aid is a bit of an unknown. At 24, he is one of the older players in the league, and he only played a few matches in Overwatch Contenders last season. It will be interesting to see what role he plays.
Toronto Defiant 2019 Preview
Chemistry is going to be big for this team. Bishop and London Spitfire had a major falling out last year, and he is a coach that can wear on his players. Envy was rumored to have left the Los Angeles Valiant after personality conflicts too, so that’s another thing to keep an eye on. This can be a mid-tier team that challenges for a playoff spot if everything comes together, but they must avoid interpersonal pitfalls.
