Horse Racing Odds - Delta Downs Jackpot Race Preview

1.bkr

We might be at the end of the year for horse racing, but the two-year olds are starting to get revved up in their chase to get into the Kentucky Derby next year.

The Delta Downs Jackpot isn't considered one of those top-flight races, but it's one which can propel a two-year old to the next phase of his career with sights on Churchill Downs in May.

You can find horse racing odds at BookMaker.eu at the online racebook.

ODDS ANALYSIS

1: Forevamo 4/1

2: Memories of Winter 10/1

3: Sunny Ridge 7/2

4: Whitmore 8/1

5: Harlan Punch 10/1

6: Texas Jambalaya 20/1

7: Found Money 6/1

8: Cowboy Classic 30/1

9: Exaggerator 2/1

10: Iron Dome 20/1

The field at the Delta Downs Jackpot is a good one this year, though all of the top trainers have elected to keep their horses fresh for their January prep races for the Derby. Exaggerator is considered the best of the bunch here in this field of 10, and he's a 2 to 1 choice as a result. Sunny Ridge and Forevamo aren't far behind, though that's about it in terms of colts expected to really challenge at this level.

Five of the 10 horses are at least 10 to 1 on this day, the last of which is Cowboy Classic at 30 to 1. That said, odd things happen in the Sport of Kings, particularly when you're talking about two-year olds we don't have a lot of data on, so anything is possible.

FAVORITE TO FOLLOW

Exaggerator is going to have a quick turnaround here from the Breeders' Cup Juvenile, but the fact that he is running in this race is a real message to the rest of the colts out there that he's going to try to become a racing champ. He's one of the many sired by the great Curlin, and the results have panned out so far.

Exaggerator has run three straight 90+ Beyer Speed Ratings, and though he was beaten out by Nyquist and others at the Breeders' Cup Juvenile, he was still amongst the favorites, which tells us that there's something here.

He's a trailer by nature, but that could work into his hands if he has the kick at the end of this race that he just wasn't able to have at the Breeders' Cup last month.

UNDERDOG TO WATCH

Whitmore has only raced once in his career, that coming in a six furlong maiden race. That said, he won impressively by 7 1/4 furlongs and is ready for a few challenge. He's had some decent workouts of late, the best of which was breezing four furlongs in 48 and 3 back on September 27.

We're really not all that sure whether Whitmore was a one race wonder or not, especially since he has never gone up against a great field, but this is a day where he can prove his worth going forward.

ANALYSIS AND PREDICTION

Simply put, Exaggerator is the best horse in this field. He's the only one to run in the Breeders' Cup in the bunch, and the only other real comparable is Sunny Ridge who, in spite of his second place finish at the Champagne Stakes, was still a 24 to 1 longshot for a reason.

Unless Exaggerator just doesn't have that last kick in him to finish up the 1 1/16 miles, we see no reason he won't win on Saturday.
