Horse Racing Odds - Chilukki Stakes Race Preview

14.ar

The Breeders' Cup is said and done with, and horse racing will slow down just a bit. Many of the top racers are going to be cast aside for the winter, but there is still some fine racing and some reasonably sized purses heading into the New Year.

The Chilukki Stakes will see eight go to post at Churchill Downs on the turf in one of the handful of graded stakes races this weekend.

You can find horse racing odds at BookMaker.eu at the online racebook.

ODDS ANALYSIS

1: Birdatthewire

2: Ahh Chocolate

3: Serene Melody

4: Spelling Again

5: Ambusher

6: Gold Medal Dancer

7: Keen Pauline

8: Shanon Nicole

As of Thursday morning, there are still no morning line odds posted for the Chilukki Stakes, but we have a good idea where the oddsmakers are going with this one. Birdatthewire is going to end up being the chief favorite, particularly with the inside post. Gold Medal Dancer isn't going to be far behind knowing that she is the richest horse in this field by a whopping margin of over $300,000 in career earnings.

Aside from that, there should be a clump of mares together in the 8 to 1 range, highlighted by Keen Pauline, who was a possible entrant into one of the many Breeders' Cup races before pulling out to head to Churchill Downs as recently as a week ago.

FAVORITE TO FOLLOW

About the only concern here for Birdatthewire is the fact that she hasn't raced since the Kentucky Oaks right here at Churchill Downs. She was amongst the favorites that day at 5 to 1 and finished fifth best, but she had an atrocious run the whole way through thanks to Jose Ortiz doing a miserable job with her mount.

Her workouts have been strong of late, and we know that she has the pedigree and the racing history to be able to win races like this. Remember that she won the Gulfstream Park Oaks and has three wins in graded stakes races in her career. This could be just what the doctor ordered for her against a relatively easy field in a short, one-mile race at the Chilukki Stakes.

UNDERDOG TO WATCH

Keep an eye on Keen Pauline on Saturday. She had a terrible race at the Cotillion Stakes back in September, but she was the second favorite at 4 to 1 on that day.

We know that this is a filly which has some real potential. She won the Black Eyed Susan and posted a 97 Beyer Speed Rating. Unfortunately, that result looks like a flash in the pan right now, but at the right price of around 10 to 1, we'd certainly give a whack to Keen Pauline on Saturday.

ANALYSIS AND PREDICTION

We didn’t talk about Gold Medal Dancer at all yet, but she begs to be discussed. Yes, she's five years old now, but she has run five times here at Churchill Downs and hit the board in three of the five.

It'd be foolish to leave Gold Medal Dancer out of your exotics, but we still think the best horse racing odds here will be on Birdatthewire. She's got the rawest talent in this field from what we've seen, and the fact that her last five races have all seen Beyer Speed Ratings of 93 or better tells us that she probably has the best speed on the track as well unless someone else has a career day. As long as she isn't odds on, we'll want Birdatthewire in the Chilukki Stakes.
