NFL Week 4 Ugly Dog Picks - Bet on Football

NFL Week 4 Ugly Dog Picks

Some of the best bets in the NFL each week are oftentimes wagers on teams that are considered the worst in the league. If you want to win money betting NFL games then you need to be willing to take teams no one else wants to bet. We refer to these teams as ugly dogs and you really have to hold your nose sometimes when you bet on them, but history has shown that going against the public works. It has been a rough start to the season, as the bad teams have not been covering the spread. Let's hope things turn around in Week 4. Let’s take a look at the Week 4 Ugly Dog picks.

NFL Week 4 Ugly Dog Picks

Let me point out one fact that you are probably already aware of. When you bet these games, you are usually better off waiting until Sunday morning to make your wagers because you will probably get a better number than what I list from earlier in the week.

Jacksonville Jaguars +7.5 at Cincinnati Bengals

We have been stuck playing on the Jaguars and that may continue for most of this season. Jacksonville is not a good team on either side of the ball and Urban Meyer and Trevor Lawrence are getting a rude awakening to the NFL. The Bengals have played well this season and they have the looks of a team on the way up. This should be a perfect type of play for the ugly dog column as we go against a team that is getting a lot of positive publicity and we take the team that no one likes. We'll take the points with the Jaguars.

New York Jets +7.5 vs. Tennessee Titans

Another rookie quarterback that has looked awful so far this season is New York's Zach Wilson. He doesn't have much help around him and the Jets are going to fight with Jacksonville for the dubious honor of the NFL's worst team. There is very little to like about the Jets right now and they getting more than a TD at home to Tennessee. Perhaps the Jets could be a little better offensively this week simply because Tennessee's defense isn't that good, but it may not matter. The public is all over the Titans in this one and the Jets are definitely an ugly dog, so we take the points with New York.

New York Giants +8 at New Orleans Saints

The Giants have been one of the most disappointing teams in the league so far this season. Daniel Jones was thought to be a quarterback who was ready to take the next step and the Giants were expected to be better this season. It is early, but the Giants don't look like a contender. They don't figure to get any better this week as they face a New Orleans team that has shown some good things so far this season. The public wants nothing to do with the Giants and that gives us some added value. We'll go with the Giants plus the points as an ugly dog.

Houston Texans +17.5 at Buffalo Bills

The Texans have actually been better than expected this season, as they at least have some offensive talent. It would help if they got Tyrod Taylor back at quarterback but he is still out. The Bills looked great last week in the win over Washington and that is why this line is so high. Not many people think Houston can stay close to the Bills, but the odds on this game are out of sight. Maybe the Bills won't have a letdown against Houston, but it doesn't take much for Houston to cover this big spread. We'll take the Texans plus the points as an ugly dog.

Pittsburgh Steelers +7 at Green Bay Packers

Did you think you would see the Steelers as an ugly dog? Pittsburgh looks awful and they are going on the road to face Aaron Rodgers and the Packers. Ben Roethlisberger looks old and slow and the Pittsburgh defense is average at best. It could be that the Mike Tomlin era needs to come to an end and the Steelers need to go into rebuilding mode. That hasn't happened yet, but not many people want to bet on Pittsburgh. We'll take the Steelers as an ugly dog.

New England Patriots +6.5 vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers

This is similar in some respects to the last game. Did you envision the Patriots as an ugly dog? New England was supposed to be a contender this season but it is already obvious that Mac Jones needs more time to develop and the Patriots have some holes on defense. This game will be all about Tom Brady returning to New England as a member of the Bucs. The public is all over the Bucs in this game and that does give us some added value. We'll take the Patriots as an ugly dog.
