NFL Week 2 Ugly Dog Picks - Bet on Football

NFL Week 2 Ugly Dog Picks

Some of the best bets in the NFL each week are oftentimes wagers on teams that are considered the worst in the league. If you want to win money betting NFL games then you need to be willing to take teams no one else wants to bet. We refer to these teams as ugly dogs and you really have to hold your nose sometimes when you bet on them, but history has shown that going against the public works. Last week we are going to call it 1-1-1, as you could have gotten a win, a loss or a push with the Lions. The most likely scenario is that you probably won, but we’ll count it as a push. Let’s take a look at the Week 2 Ugly Dog picks.

NFL Week 2 Ugly Dog Picks

Let me point out one fact that you are probably already aware of. When you bet these games, you are usually better off waiting until Sunday morning to make your wagers because you will probably get a better number than what I list from earlier in the week. That happened last week with the Lions, as I listed them at +7.5, but the line closed at 9.5. Let’s look at this week’s games.

Houston Texans +12.5 at Cleveland Browns

There are not going to be many occasions this season where we have an ugly dog with a winning record, but that is the case in this game. The Texans looked better than expected last week against Jacksonville and they got the straight up win. Houston is still in the ugly dog category, but that would definitely change if they win this week on the road against the Browns. We’ll take Houston as an ugly dog.

Jacksonville Jaguars +6.5 vs. Denver Broncos

The Jaguars didn’t look good against Houston last week and Urban Meyer seemed totally unprepared to be an NFL head coach. Trevor Lawrence may indeed be a great quarterback in the future, but he is not one right now. Teddy Bridgewater looked really good last week for Denver and the Broncos are getting a lot of love this week from bettors. We’ll take the Jaguars plus the points as an ugly dog.

New York Jets +5.5 vs. New England Patriots

The Jets are another team with a rookie quarterback and New York did not look good last week in a loss to the Panthers. The Patriots also have a rookie quarterback and he had his ups and downs last week in a loss to Miami. The public wants nothing to do with the Jets so they are going with the Patriots this week, even on the road. I am not sold on the Jets either, but this column doesn’t take into account personal opinion, it simply takes ugly dogs. The Jets are likely to be an ugly dog for most of this season and we take them plus the points in this game against the Patriots.

Atlanta Falcons +13 at Tampa Bay Buccaneers

The Falcons looked like the worst team in the NFL last week in a humiliating loss at home to the Eagles. Now the Falcons have to go on the road and play the defending Super Bowl champion Buccaneers. This is about as ugly as it gets, but that is the point of this column. There are not going to be many people betting on Atlanta this week and that gives us value. We’ll take the Falcons as an ugly dog.

Detroit Lions +10.5 at Green Bay Packers

The Lions rallied last week to get an extremely unlikely backdoor cover against the 49ers while the Packers were a disgrace in a loss to the Saints. The public was not sold on the Lions last week and they expect the Packers to bounce back with a big win. This is an interesting game because the Lions might be a little better than people think and the Packers could be vastly overrated. We’ll take the Lions plus the points as an ugly dog.
