Rams at Packers MNF Week 15 Betting

The Green Bay Packers are currently 5-8 and 2.5 games out of the playoff picture. They have a long way to go if they are going to make it back to the postseason, and they cannot lose another game if they plan on sneaking into the playoffs. The good news is that they are coming off a bye week and have three of their last four games at home this season, including on Monday Night Football in Week 15 when they host the Los Angeles Rams.

Aaron Rodgers is looking to keep the Green Bay Packers’ slim playoff hopes alive on Monday Night Football this week. Green Bay will host the Los Angeles Rams on Monday, December 19, 2022, at 8:15 p.m. ET on ESPN from Lambeau Field in Green Bay, Wisconsin.

Odds Analysis

Initially, the Green Bay Packers were favored by 7.5 points by the NFL betting odds over the Los Angeles Rams on Monday Night Football. However, we quickly saw action come in on the Rams, moving the line below seven. There has been no movement with the total though as not many points are expected for a clash between Aaron Rodgers and Baker Mayfield.

Los Angeles Rams

Baker Mayfield pulled off the impossible for the Los Angeles Rams last week. Mayfield was signed off the waiver wire just two days before the Rams faced the Las Vegas Raiders on Thursday Night Football. He only had the most rudimentary knowledge of the playbook, yet he was still able to engineer a fourth quarter comeback that essentially eliminated the Raiders from postseason contention. Sean McVay announced that Mayfield would be the starter for the rest of the season earlier this week, and it will be interesting to see how he performs after he was terrible during his time in Carolina.

The Rams snapped a six-game losing streak by beating Las Vegas, but this offense is still among the worst in the league. They rank 29th in scoring offense (16.8 PPG), 31st in total offense (283.0 YPG), and 32nd in yards per play (4.7 YPP). The ground game has been abysmal, even though Cam Akers has improved as a runner over the last month, while the passing game was way too predictable with Matt Stafford at the helm. With top receivers Cooper Kupp and Allen Robinson II out, Mayfield will be throwing to tight end Tyler Higbee, Van Jefferson, Tutu Atwell, and Ben Skowronek.

Los Angeles does boast a solid defense. The Rams have three future Hall of Famers in Aaron Donald, Bobby Wagner, and Jalen Ramsey. Donald is questionable to play this week and missed last week, but he has an enormous impact on games with his size and athleticism.

Green Bay Packers

Matt LaFleur led the Green Bay Packers to three straight 13-win seasons upon taking over for Mike McCarthy. The Packers got off to a 3-1 start this year, but they have hit rock bottom over the last two-plus months. They have lost seven of their last nine games, and that has them in a precarious spot when it comes to the postseason.

Aaron Rodgers has not been at his best, posting league average numbers. The ground game has been somewhat effective with Aaron Jones and A.J. Dillon teaming up to run for almost 1,500 yards and five touchdowns, but the offense isn’t as explosive as we have seen in the past. There is reason to be optimistic though as second-round pick Christian Watson is starting to come into his own at receiver, and fellow rookie receiver Romeo Doubs might finally return to the field after a month out.

The Packers ranked in the top ten in either total defense or scoring defense for each of the last three seasons. They don’t rank in the top ten in either category this year, as the run defense has been a mess. Green Bay is allowing 5.0 YPC and 154.8 YPG on the ground this season, and we saw Philadelphia run all over this front seven a few weeks ago. The loss of Rashan Gary has been huge, and starting safety Darnell Savage is questionable to play on Monday night.

Rams at Packers Free Pick

It’s tempting to go with Green Bay here, but the Packers have not been the dominant team we have seen in the past. Two of their five wins have come in overtime, and another two of their victories were against the 3-10 Chicago Bears. Only one of their wins was by double digits, so the Rams are the play here.
