The names which the Philadelphia Soul have had associated in their ownership groups over the years are the likes of which fans who have never seen the Arena Football League before would recognize. Jon Bon Jovi was one of the owners of this team when it was first brought into the AFL in 2004, and he was standing on the podium collecting the Foster Trophy in 2008 when his team finally won its only championship.
Unfortunately for the Soul, they helped close up the league at the end of the '08 season as the champs, and they didn't get a chance to get back on the field in 2010. Ron Jaworski helped spearhead an ownership group which now includes former Saints wide receiver Marques Colston and former NFL head coach Dick Vermeil.
The Soul struggled in their first year back from their hiatus, finishing just 6-12, but from that point forward, they've been one of the most dangerous teams in the AFL.
Philadelphia reached the ArenaBowl in both 2012 and 2013, but in both cases, it ran into a juggernaut Arizona Rattlers team which was in the midst of a three-peat of titles. The Soul then lost to Cleveland and Jacksonville in the playoffs in 2014 and 2015, the latter of which came after a 15-win season which seemed destined for a shot at an elusive championship.
The Soul have one of the most notable names in the AFL today in former Miami (Ohio) quarterback Dan Raudabaugh. Raudabaugh will hit the 30,000-yard mark in his career as a passer this season, and he's the reigning MVP winner in the AFL heading into the 2016 season.
Thanks to the Democratic National Convention being held at the Soul's home, the Wells Fargo Center, they'll have to play a number of their games at neutral sites this season. The team will play games in Trenton and Allentown in the regular season, and its first round playoff game will have to be moved to a different location as well.
