The last time King of the Cage ran this promotion was back in 2013. That October, there were 20 fights with a total of $250,000 in contracts being awarded to the winners of those bouts. Anthony McDonald was awarded the biggest contract with $100,000 going to him after his knockout of Matthew McCrary in the first round, though others were awarded with contracts as well. Saad Ul-Hassah and Sam Hess were given $50,000 contracts, while Aaron Williams and Frank Schuman were given one-fight $25,000 contracts.
This is one of the few events over the course of the year for KOTC which will be broadcast live. After the conclusion of the 20 bouts over the evening, fans will take place in interactive live voting both in the television audience and at the Hard Rock, and five lucky winners from their bouts from earlier in the evening will be chosen to become professionals for the first time in their careers.
There is a qualifying process for KOTC World Amateur Championships III, as well over 1,000 fighters will ultimately try to work their way onto this card. Through a series of bouts leading into KOTC World Amateur Championships III, the contenders will be narrowed down to approximately 40 who will be pitted against each other. In order to be eligible for a professional contract, you have to win your bout. To say that the pressure is on at KOTC World Amateur Championships III is an understatement, and you're not going to want to miss it on September 3.
