She defeated Kristen Gatz in her debut on June 22nd, 2013, and followed that up with victories over Summer Bradshaw and Brittney Elkin. Faszholz did lose once as an amateur fighter but has been impressive since joining the professional ranks. It seems she will attempt to make this a wrestling match with her propensity for winning by submission.
Valentina Shevchenko is 9-1 in her career with five wins by submission, two by knockout and two by decision. She won her first five fights as a professional before finally falling to Liz Carmouche by second-round knockout on September 30th, 2010. Shevchenko has bounced back nicely since that loss, entering this showdown on a four-fight winning streak. In her last fight on February 27th, 2015, Shevchenko defeated Jan Finney by unanimous decision at Legacy FC 39.
Another fight to watch at Legacy FC 50 features Evangelista Santos against Artenas Young. Santos is 19-16 in his career with 12 knockouts, five submissions and two decisions. He has had a tough time of it lately, with seven losses in his past 11 bouts. Santos fell to Melvin Manhoef by first-round TKO last time out. His most recent win came over Elton Rodrigues in 2013. Young is 10-9 in his career with five wins by decision and four by knockout. Young has also struggled lately as he will aim to break a three-fight losing streak when he takes on Santos. Young fell to Ryan Spann by third-round submission in his last fight. Both of these fighters have shown some promise at times but have fallen on tough times. One will be able to turn it around in this matchup.
There are other fights scheduled for the event, but Legacy FC 50 will be headlined by the women’s bantamweight title fight. Holly Holm showed how fast a mixed martial artist can fly up the ranks, and she is currently riding high after the upset over Ronda Rousey. Faszholz and Shevchenko would love to follow in those footsteps in MMA odds.
