Boxing Betting Lines: For all intents and purposes, virtually all of the middleweight titles in boxing belong to Gennady Golovkin at this point. He's certain to end up fighting Saul "Canelo" Alvarez at some point down the line, perhaps as early as the end of this year, but he's going to have an interim fight first against Kell Brook.
The Golovkin/Brook bout will take place at the O2 Arena in London on Saturday, September 10 and will be shown on HBO.
Golovkin enters this fight at a perfect 35-0, and there's virtually no doubt that this is going to end up being another walkover in spite of the fact that Brook is going to be fighting in his homeland and will have a real home-ring advantage. Of his 35 fights, the Kazakh brawler has posted 32 knockouts, most recently blowing away Dominic Wade just 2:37 into the second round. Exactly one fight out of 14 has gone deeper than the eighth round in which Golovkin has partaken since 2011.
The only real concern here for Golovkin would be looking ahead to the inevitable fight with Alvarez in what would immediately become one of the biggest draws in boxing in recent memory.
Brook though, has some merit. He is, after all, a perfect 36-0 in his career, though he hasn't fought anywhere near as strong of a slate of fighters as Golovkin has in his career. The other big disadvantage which Brook has is the fact that he's stepping up not just one, but two weight classes here.
Sure, Brook has dominated at the welterweight level, and he's widely accepted as one of the best 10 pound-for-pound boxers on the planet, but this is a far different challenge from what he's used to.
Most recently ,Brook knocked out Kevin Bizier in March in a field in Sheffield for the IBF welterweight title. It marked his third straight fight which he posted a knockout or forced retirement.
