Flanagan then won his current WBO lightweight championship belt with a win over Jose Zepeda on July 11th, 2015. He successfully defended it for the first time in his most recent fight on October 10th, knocking off Diego Magdaleno by second-round technical knockout. The lack of overpowering punchout is a bit disconcerting in regards to Flanagan, but the undefeated record and current title belt certainly shows he will be a tough boxer to defeat in the ring. Flanagan faced off against Mathews for the first time back on October 6th, 2012. He picked up the victory via unanimous decision, which should give Flanagan confidence heading into this rematch. The first fight was only three rounds long.
